(NASHVILLE, TENN.) - After most of the previous 12 months covering Barack Obama’s campaign for the presidency, it was interesting, instructive and, well, relaxing to follow John McCain for the last few days. The differences between the two are striking.

Obama’s campaign schedule is fuller, more hectic and seemingly improvisational. The Obama aides who deal with the national reporters on the campaign plane are often overwhelmed, overworked and un-informed about where, when, why or how the candidate is moving about. Baggage calls are preposterously early with the explanation that it’s all for security reasons.

If so, I would love to have someone from Obama’s campaign explain why the entire press corps, the Secret Service, and the local police idled for two hours in a Miami hotel parking lot recently because there was nothing to do and nowhere to go. It was not an isolated case.

The McCain folks are more helpful and generally friendly. The schedules are printed on actual books you can hold in your hand, read, and then plan accordingly. The press aides are more knowledgeable and useful to us in the news media. The events are designed with a better eye, and for the simple needs of the press corps. When he is available, John McCain is friendly and loquacious. Obama holds news conferences, but seldom banters with the reporters who’ve been following him for thousands of miles around the country. Go figure.

The McCain campaign plane is better than Obama’s, which is cramped, uncomfortable and smells terrible most of the time. Somehow the McCain folks manage to keep their charter clean, even where the press is seated.

The Obama’s are used to stinky.

In an interview with Glamour magazine, Michelle Obama reveals that her husband, Barack, is so “snore-y and stinky” when he wakes up in the morning that their daughters won’t crawl into bed with him.

The other day in Albuquerque, N.M., the reporters were given almost no time to file their reports after McCain spoke. It was an important, aggressive speech, lambasting Obama’s past associations. When we asked for more time to write up his remarks and prepare our reports, the campaign readily agreed to it. They understood.

Similar requests are often denied or ignored by the Obama campaign aides, apparently terrified that the candidate may have to wait 20 minutes to allow reporters to chronicle what he’s just said. It’s made all the more maddening when we are rushed to our buses only to sit and wait for 30 minutes or more because nobody seems to know when Obama is actually on the move.

So this begs the question. If Obama and his staff cannot run a campaign, what makes you think they he can run this country?

The original video on YouTube was removed by the user, but it’s still out there and I’ve re-posted it here. I also have an update on the story.

The choreographed chant and subsequent video was made by a teacher at the Kansas City charter school, Urban Community Leadership Academy.

The teacher has since taken down the YouTube video from his/her account, and has been suspended for insubordination. Considering this and the recent South Side High School KKK/McCain incident, doesn’t it make you wonder just what in the hell is being crammed into our children’s heads at school?

UPDATED: 11:40 a.m.

Principal Smith just called me back He stated the drawings were the result of a government social studies class. It involved discussions concerning political satire, how political satire is used, and why it is used.

As a result of that lesson students were asked to make a satirical drawing (not poster) that would be provocative. The teacher (a student teacher) posted the drawings on the wall They were drawn on 8.5 X 11 sheets of paper.

Smith also stated that actions have been taken against the student teacher, but it was not being turned over to the Fort Wayne Community School Board, it was being handled internally (whatever that means).

Smith would not release the name of the student teacher.

This weekend SAT’s were held at South Side High School. I received the following in an email regarding a couple of drawings in one of the rooms where SAT’s were being held.

One of my children went to South Side High School for his SAT and was in room A214. There were 2 drawings hung up, one was Klansmen walking around with McCain signs and the other one was McCain = Death. This is real interesting for a Fort Wayne Community school. There were others hung up but not as outrageous as this.

I’ve been trying to figure out a way to get into the school to get pictures, but as I was planning my sneak attack, a concerned citizen who was also notified called the school yesterday and spoke to principal Mr. Thomas Smith about the posters.

Smith told the concerned citizen he went to the room and retrieved the KKK/McCain poster, but could not find the McCain=Death drawing. He told the concerned citizen it was part of a student/teacher class project of drawings in ink. Smith told the concerned citizen he took them down.

The student also noted that the person working the door had on a Fort Wayne Community Schools ID tag with an Obama sticker placed on it. The concerned citizen has contacted school board members regarding the incident, and I will update on that once I hear more.

I called for principal Smith today and had to leave a message. That was at 11:03 a.m. I told his secretary I was running the story and would like his comment on it. Once I get the call back (assuming I do), I will update this post.
