I’ve been watching the developments in Nebraska regarding their absolutely ridiculous safe-haven law allowing parents to abandon their children at state hospitals. Can you imagine being a self-consumed shiftless parent that dumps your kid at some hospital as they cry hysterically and plead with you not to leave them?

IMHO, this only gives lazy-ass parents the ability to *dump* their children on a porch-step only to escape the God-given responsibility of raising their kids. Granted, some people should not be charged with raising a goldfish or a lizard. Can you imagine the trauma and stress placed on a child as they’re told, “I cannot handle you and I’m abandoning you?”

Fortunately Nebraska, realizing their error today placed a 30-day age limit on the provision permitting children to be legally abandoned at hospitals. The law approved in July set no age limit and as a result more than 34 children, some as old as 17 were dumped at hospitals. Of those were nine of 10 children an Omaha man left after his wife died. How convenient.

Now comes this piece of Indiana human debris.

“I took him there where I knew he would be safe because I didn’t trust the welfare system in Indiana and I didn’t want him to go through what I went through when I was growing up through the welfare system in Indiana,” she said. “So I felt like it would be the best thing to do would be to take him there where he would be safe.”

Mote would not say how Indiana’s system failed her, but a friend told The Indianapolis Star that Mote feels Indiana’s system failed her when she was abused as a child.

“She didn’t abandon him. She just wanted to get him help. She didn’t feel he’d get the help he needed in the state of Indiana,” said Rhonda Shea, who shares a Wabash County home with Mote and was acting as her spokeswoman.

Bullshit.
Shiftless - lazy - irresponsible.

The father of Mote’s son had custody of the boy after the couple separated more than two years ago, but the child moved in with Mote in April after Miami County authorities arrested the father for failing to register as a sex offender. The father had been convicted of child molesting in 1988. Mote divorced the father in September.

Shea said the boy’s behavior overwhelmed his mother. Although he’s 8, he’s not fully toilet-trained, and can be destructive, such as clawing paint off the walls and intentionally clogging the toilet, she said.

I’m pretty angry posting this. She actually let the child live with a convicted child molester?

There has to be other options.

Speaking of Halloween, this year promises to be a “bit” safer when it comes to potential threats from Sex Offenders.

The Indiana Department of Corrections has implemented a statewide program to keep (some) sex offenders away from children.

From a local rag:

As part of the Department of Correction program, sex offenders on parole in Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange and Noble counties are required to stay inside their homes from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with the front porch lights off and a special sign provided to them posted on their doors alerting children and parents that no candy will be handed out there.

Parolees in Whitley, Kosciusko, Wells and Adams counties are ordered to attend meetings at nearby jails during trick-or-treating hours, according to Fort Wayne Parole District Supervisor Dave Wuthrich. There they will receive information about treatment for sex problems and tips on how to stay in the good graces of their parole officers, according to the Department of Correction.

Take note however, this only affects those on parole and probation.

In Allen County, about 100 sex offenders are on parole and will be affected, according to Shimkus.

In addition, the Allen County Adult Probation Office has ordered the 94 sex offenders currently on probation in the county to adhere to the same rules as those on parole. Armed probation officers will be checking those homes and offenders not in compliance could be referred to a judge for violating probation, according to Chief Probation Officer Eric Zimmerman.

That leaves about 450 or so registered sex offenders in Allen County who are not on parole or probation and are free to hand out candy if they like. Federal statistics gathered throughout the 1990s show that 93 percent of the people who committed sex crimes against juveniles knew their victims beforehand.

ANNAPOLIS | The Scarlet Letter for Maryland sex offenders this Halloween will be a bright orange pumpkin.

That is the symbol on a sign they are required to post on their doors with a warning, in capital letters, to trick-or-treaters: “No candy at this residence.”

The paper signs began arriving last week in the mailboxes of the roughly 1,200 violent and child-sex offenders across the state with a letter explaining how they are to comport themselves on Oct. 31.

I got this email today from a response to one of my “Sex Offenders of the Day” posts.

With regard to the so-called problem of internet predators, please read the reports from the University of New Hampshire and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that show the incidence of so-called internet solicition is on the decline and has been over the past few years. It is simply not likely for a “child” to be solicited over the internet as it was years ago. Law enforcement is fabricating many of these “solicitation” cases by posing as “children” in chat rooms. I know of at least one case where a decoy cop was in an adult-only chat room and I wonder just what a “child” - real or not - would be doing in an adult-only chat room that uses age verification? Law enforcement does this to pad their numbers so they can get funding, but they are entrapping innocent people who are doing nothing wrong. We need to stop the hype and scare tactics that law enforcement and the media are using. Please read the reports. Thank you.

Kaitlyn, all I can tell you is this. Your dead wrong. I bet one of those so called “cases” involved someone you knew. If they didn’t have ill-intent Kaitlyn, what the hell were they doing there in the first place? Looking for sex, period, E.O.D.

The recidivism rate for child molesters is at an all-time high. Law enforcement is not fabricating anything. These men are predators, plain and simple. If they’re enticed by a “child” as you put it, they’re sick and perverted individuals. Short of my solution, we need to lock their asses up.
