Dear Angry White Boy, I’m at a fundraiser and the host offered to match every $50 contribution that we got in before midnight tonight.

As you probably heard, the Indianapolis Star released a poll that has us in a statistical dead heat with Mitch Daniels and Becky Skillman. We are within striking distance and we need your help now!
Please go to our website - www.hoosiersforjill.com - and give today!
Thanks, Dennie Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T
Come on Dennie, I’m on the wrong team, and we all know that besides your email being laughable, so is the Indy Star poll.
Oh, we know the “Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T” is bullshit, too.

Daniels Holds Lead in Indiana Governor Re-Election Contest: In an election for Governor of Indiana held today, 09/30/08, Incumbent Republican Mitch Daniels defeats Democratic Jill Long Thompson, according to this latest SurveyUSA tracking poll conducted exclusively for WHAS-TV in Louisville and WCPO-TV in Cincinnati. Today, it’s Daniels and running mate Lt. Governor Becky Skillman 53%, Democrat Long Thompson and running mate Dennie Oxley 37%. The Libertarian ticket of Andy Horning and Lisa Kelly take 6%; 4% of likely voters are undecided. Compared to a SurveyUSA poll released six weeks ago, Daniels is up 1 point; Long Thompson is down 1 point.
Daniels now leads in all regions of the state: in previous polling, Long Thompson led in Northern Indiana. 25% of Democrats cross over to vote for incumbent Republican Daniels; 14% of Republicans cross over to vote for Democrat Long Thompson. Independents favor Daniels by 25 points.

Fort Wayne, IN., September 18, 2008 - The Allen County Right to Life Political Action Committee (ACRL- PAC) today endorsed a number of Federal, State, and Local candidates seeking elected office in the Indiana general election being held November 4th.
“This year’s general election will indeed be a historic opportunity for the cause of life and we are again pleased to have a solid slate of pro-life candidates on the ballot in the fall,” said ACRL PAC Communications Director, Cathie Humbarger. “We believe attitudes and actions in response to life issues are core indicators that speak to the judgment and character of candidates, and demonstrate how they are likely to govern on the many other issues important to voters” remarked Humbarger.

Jill Long-Thompson’s supporters are crying the blues over at Blue Indiana. To save you the agony of actually going to that blog, here’s the post and some of the comments.
The post: Jill Long Thompson will campaign throughout northeast Indiana for the next few days.
Why?
Because she’s losing statewide by almost 20 points. I’m sure her numbers in NE Indiana have softened as well. I have the feeling they’re just going through the motions now and don’t have any hope for victory at this point. She’s pulled her ads (for financial reasons I presume) and is campaigning in “safe” territory.
I really wish Evan Bayh had decided to run for governor again. Then we’d be looking at a 20 point lead.

I recognize what is going on, but they were spending significant time and resources in that corner of the state long before the polls began their downward spiral. There are still sizeable portions of the state where the JLT-Oxley ticket have sub-50% name ID. This is a larger, systemic problem at heart, but that doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to get irritated when I see it happening.

I think she’s just trying to prevent this from sucking under her friends and people that have supported her locally in the past. If she could get back to even in Northern Indiana she can at least show her face around town.

It really annoys me that most of the Daniels ads I see these days are joint ads with other statewide candidates. He’s so unworried about his own seat now that he’s helping out people who otherwise probably wouldn’t be on television and who would bolster his poor policies.
I did see some local people canvasing here in Muncie this weekend. They were primarily canvasing for a local county commissioner, but they also had stickers for Jill. First activity I’ve really seen for Jill in any way so far during the general election cycle. I was surprised that they didn’t seem to be coordinated with the Obama campaign in any way. Has there been tension between the two camps that anyone is aware of?
by: Daily Activist
The Obama camp doesn’t play well with others
It’s a widespread problem; they’re all about Obama, the hell with anybody else. It’s not uncommon to see one group canvassing just for Obama and another working for the rest of the ticket.
by: Hank Scorpio
The fact is, Mitch Daniels, Tony Bennett and Greg Zoeller have their collective acts together. Long-Thompson doesn’t.
Now Long-Thompson spokesperson Jeff Harris states the JLT campaign is folding some of their field operations into Obama offices. Many of those are not even staffed, they just have a sign in the window. Obama claims to have opened offices in all 92 counties, and that’s a load of bull. Even the 31 “field offices” are not independent Obamassiah operations with many of them are begged, borrowed and or shared space with other local candidates. With operations in all 92 states, how is it Obama only has phone numbers and addresses in 29 of those locations ( see here)?
One Democratic county chairman characterized the Thompson campaign this morning as “a disaster.”
No kidding.

I was sent the latest Howey-Gauge last night. Some interesting highlights.
The majority of those polled believe:
- That things in Indiana are on the right track
- The most important issue facing the state of Indiana today is jobs and wages
- 64% stated that on a scale of 1-10 their interest in this falls elections is 10
Other interesting tidbits
- Both McCain’s and Obama’s name recognition is 99%
- Mitch Daniels’ name recognition is 96%
- Jill Long-Thompson’s name recognition is only 77%
- Becky Skillman’s name recognition is 51%
- Dennis Oxley’s name recognition is a mere 17%
- A majority want to see Mitch Daniels re-elected
- 11% of voters are still undecided
- If the election were held today, Daniels would get 53%, Lon-Thompson only 35%
- A combined 72% say gradual withdrawal from Iraq by 2011 or keep troop levels the same
- Obama and McCain are virtually tied at 45% - 43%
The entire poll is below the fold.

Proceed cautiously…that’s the way Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson thinks the state legislature should deal with the local government streamlining recommendations of the Shepard-Kernan Commission.
Long Thompson says she comes from a rural county and local government works well there. She says lawmakers don’t need to approach it from a “one size, fits all” mindset.
Long Thompson says the commission put a lot of it’s recommendations together with little input from local elected leaders.
Little input my ass. Every elected official (stakeholder) had the chance to participate and make recommendations. From the report:
How did the commission collect input regarding its recommendations?
Public input was an important component of our work. Early on, the commission established a web site to facilitate sharing information and collecting input from stakeholders. Throughout the six months of our work, citizens were able to submit comments by web form, e-mail, and phone. The website received more than 12,000 visits and we received approximately 1,500 recommendations and comments. In addition, the staff conducted 25 interviews various experts and stakeholder groups. The commission also held public forums in Gary, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Franklin, New Albany, and Evansville. More than 700 citizens participated in these six events.
Elect Jill and it will be more of the liberal tax and spend policies that Daniels’ has work so hard to get rid of.

From Hoosier Access
A recent survey conducted by Survey USA has Governor Daniels crushing his opponent Jill Long Thompson if the election were held today (or Tuesday, when the poll was released) 52% to 38%. While the same poll gives Indiana to John McCain 50% to 44%. The survey was conducted for WHAS-TV in Louisville and WCPO-TV in Cincinnati and as taken. SurveyUSA interviewed 900 Indiana adults 08/16/08 through 08/18/08. Of them, 779 were registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 645 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely voters in the 11/04/08 general election.
A few other numbers to look at just before the leap, 23% of Democrats were willing to cross over and vote for Governor Daniels, while 12% of Republicans we’re willing to cross over to vote for JLT. But the startling number to me was that only 4% of voters were undecided. The remaining percentage went to Libertarian/Independent candidates. That basically means that barring a catastrophe, Governor Daniels sails to victory.

The folks over at Jill Long-Thompson’s campaign HQ are squawking again. This time it’s in regard to Mitch Daniels a $725,000 donation from the Republican Governors Association. JLT says it’s beltway money, since they’re based in Washington, D.C. That’s a bunch of baloney. The Republican Governors Association, not unlike the Democrat’s Governors Association raises money across the country. The Democratic Governor’s Association contributed to JLT as well. A paltry $75,000.
While Jill’s bemoaning the contribution she also states the bulk of her contributions are coming from everyday, working class people. Another lie.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has contributed over $700,000. The SEIU basically steals money from state employees.
From the Sacramento Bee
A federal judge has ordered the state’s largest public employee union to repay as many as 28,000 non-union state workers who were not given a chance to challenge a 2005 dues increase to fight initiatives backed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Judge Morrison England, in a decision Thursday, ordered Service Employees International Union Local 1000 to send notices to the workers who opted out of union membership. The union must issue refunds, with interest, to those non-union members who object to the special assessment. The rebate would amount to $135 plus interest for a worker who made $4,500 a month in 2005.
The special fee raised $12 million to fight Schwarzenegger’s agenda, about a quarter of which was paid by state workers who chose not to join the union.
One Schwarzenegger-backed initiative would have required public employee unions to get written permission from members to use dues for political purposes. Another would have given governors broad budget-cutting powers.
“This is an opportunity for the state employees to reclaim the special assessment money that was taken from them unlawfully and used to advocate political causes they might disagree with,” said Justin Hakes, spokesman for the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation in Virginia, which provided legal advice to the state workers who sued.
Jon Jumper, a tax auditor for the state Employment Development Department in Anaheim, said he signed onto the lawsuit when he found out about the special assessment from a co-worker.
“I’m tickled,” he said. “I can’t stand the union.” He said the union does little to help state workers, while bolstering its own budget with dues.
The SEIU is also working to prevent Indiana from becoming a “Right-to-Work” state. Indiana currently has a Right-to-Work law in effect for school employees, and the SEIU would like to eliminate that. No other workers are covered. A Right-to-Work state prevents workers from being forced to pay tribute to a union in order to get or keep a job. Long Thompson campaign spokesman Jeff Harris claims the SEIU represents working people over corporate interests. The fact is the SEIU only represents the union and their money-grubbing agenda. Most of their members have the money taken stolen from them (without asking), for the political gain of the union.
The SEIU thinks it can buy this election. I don’t think so.
