The Indiana election commission has voted that Judge Scheibenberger remains on the ballot. The statute in Indiana code applies to attorneys, not judges.
As we reported here, the dozen wingnut Kely-ites that filed the complaint, were misguided in their smear campaign against the judge.
Judge Scheibenberger’s spokesperson told AWB the judge said, “Now we can focus on the real issues of the election, and winning in November.”
It was a bittersweet moment today for Graham Richard, our former mayor.
Graham stood at the very back of the crowd of 200 or so people, mostly heavy hitters, politicians and affiliates of one downtown organization or another, to watch current Mayor Tom Henry, Redevelopment Director Greg Leatherman and a few others give and take credit for the new hotel adjacent to the ballpark. September first is the grand opening day of the new hotel adjacent to Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne. It should be seen as a feather in the cap of Mayor Tom Henry, and should also call into question the administration’s support for Barry Realty.
When Mayor Graham Richard envisioned the massive central city development there were four components: the ball park, the hotel, the condo/retail building and a parking garage. Three are now operating. Only the Barry Realty promise to build the condo building -four stories, scores of condos, ground-floor entertainment and offices- remains unfulfilled. Hardball Capital owns a southern minor league team named the Savannah Sand Gnats.
Under consideration in Savannah is whether a brand spanking new arena would become a new home for the Savannah Sand Gnats. If it flies, it will require a public-private partnership amounting to tens of millions of taxpayer dollars. Sound familiar? Wait for the end.
Yesterday Mayor Henry Obama stated he supports Obama’s decision on the Ground Zero mosque. He made his comments after hosting the mayor’s Iftar, a meal that celebrates the end of fasting during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
“I understand that the president is under a tremendous amount of pressure. I think that as long as he could, he tried to remain on the sideline,” said Henry “He has taken the stand. He takes the oath of president. We need to support our president in his decisions and he must do what he must do.”
Hmmm… I don’t recall the Mayor hosting other religious events. How about hosting a Passover Seder? I suppose next we can expect Henry to host a celebration of the Five Pillars of Islam.
Prohibition. K-2. The police chief said it would be very hard to enforce. It was explained that banning K-2 would not ban K-3 or J-2, or a substance of slightly dissimilar chemical configuration; the health commission admitted that she had precious little data upon which to base her call for a ban, it was noted to testing for K-2 would cost tens of thousands, but in the end council voted to “prohibit the purchase, possession, sale and offering for sale of the Synthetic Cannabianoid, known as ‘Spice’ or ‘K-2′ and for other purposes.”
Rensberger, a democrat, blasted Obama, Obamacare, Tom Hayhurst, Sheriff for-life Brad Ellsworth, and Joe Donnelly. He also tossed in his support for Marlin Stutzman.
Kosciusko County Chairman Terry Bartley released the following statement in response to a letter to the editor written by Rensberger that appeared in the Times-Union on August 6.
Rensberger’s editorial follows.
The Kosciusko County Democrats do not expect all off our candidates to agree with the party’s position at all times and Mr. Rensberger is no exception. We would hope, however, that all candidates be respectful of the other candidates who have active campaigns within the county.
Mr. Rensberger crossed the line when he attacked Tom Hayhurst, Brad Ellsworth and Joe Donnelly and we are forced to take the following action. Effective immediately the Kosciusko County Democrats will pull all support from Mr. Rensberger and will not support his campaign for Kosciusko County Council District 1.
It was the type of city council meeting that Mitch Harper should like: short, concise, low-keyed.
On the committee session agenda were two, just two measures to consider: declaration of an economic revitalization area, and a “prior-approval” to get work started early on street repairs in Crestwood Colony. Council members seemed to struggle to find questions to ask on both matters. Both matters whizzed to votes and acceptance.
Dave Zirin, sportswriter and host of “Edge of Sports” on Sirius/XM satellite radio will be my guest Monday on The Gary Snyder Show on FM 100.1 Talks from 6-7 p.m. to talk about his new book, “Bad Sports: How Owners Are Ruining the Games We Love”. Monday’s show also just got a lot more interesting (if that is even possible) as Allen County Judge Ken Scheibenberger joins the program. 12 people filed a petition Wednesday with the Indiana Election Commission to have Judge Scheibenberger removed from the fall ballot. My guess is the Judge may have something to say about this, among other things? All this and since it’s Monday, FREE golf from Frazanda Golf Course.
