2nd UPDATE:

From the News Sentinel:

Ivy Tech ex-official to reimburse school

Resigned Ivy Tech Chancellor Mark Keen will be forced to pay back to the school more than $5,700 for use of college resources and facilities, according to Keen’s release agreement.

Keen must reimburse the school, with a cashier’s check in the amount of $5,733.73, by July 1, and he will be required to return any college property he holds. The agreement also forbids Keen from pursuing any legal or equitable action against the college, and both Keen and the college shall not “disparage each other,” among other stipulations.

UPDATE:

After leaving his home in the midst of a divorce, Keen purportedly took up residence at one of the cottages on the former State Development Center. It was also reported he may have used Ivy Tech funds to rehab the cottage, as they are not in livable conditions. Over Memorial Day weekend police were called regarding an unconfirmed incident and alcohol was found, which is against school regulations.

Keen was reported to have been banned from the campus sometime since the incident occurred.

The Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana Board of Trustees have reportedly bought out Keen’s contract in exchange for his resignation.

markkeenIvy Tech Chancellor Mark Keen, Ph.D. informed the College he would be resigning from his position effective Friday, June 12, 2009 for personal reasons. Dr. Russ Baker will be serving as the Interim Chancellor.

Mr. Keen is now said to be living in a camper in the Portland, Indiana area.

Ivy Tech has released this press release today.

From Business People:

Keen began his career at Ivy Tech in 1985 as an adjunct faculty member in the Electronics Technology Program. He went on to serve as the Automated Manufacturing Technology Program Chairperson and the Technology Division Chairperson before he was appointed Dean of Academic Affairs in 1994. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Higher Education Administration from Indiana State University, a Master of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, a bachelor’s degree in Automated Manufacturing, and an associate’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology.

Keen was Dean of Academic Affairs at Ivy Tech prior to taking the position of Chancellor on December 15th, 2006.

Ivy Tech is the fastest growing college in Indiana.

The Truth shall set him free….

  2. Jack S. says:

Poor Mark…he messes up the school and has to leave. There are several other reasons that he left so suddenly and it has to do with his sex.

  3. Dunce says:

I know the scuttlebut about his ‘buddy’ (a gay guy) who was promoted over another gay guy (then became his supervisor). The second guy, to get him to shut up, was promoted out of the department a few months later.

Perhaps this will lead to the reason his wife dumped him…?

  4. Concerned Student says:

Is it really our right at all to nose into his personal business? His reasons are his reasons, and it’s certainly none of your business.

He’s done nothing but good for this community and for Ivy Tech Community College in the years that he’s been there. It’s apparent that his main focus has been to serve the community and their educational needs.

THAT’S where the focus needs to be.

  5. Me says:

As a concerned tax payer subsidising YOUR education, some of this is my business. Living on state property, improper work relationships, and stealing from taxpayers are all something i am concerned about.

  6. Concerned Student says:

    Me:

To begin with, YOU, nor did any other taxpayer, pay for MY education. I do not qualify for financial aid, so I get through college the old fashioned way.

We don’t know for certain that Mr. Keen was in any way “stealing” from you as a taxpayer, OR that he was involved in improper relationships. Do you honestly believe everything that you read?

Make sure of the facts before you make a judgment.

The facts for me? Ivy Tech has never been in better shape or seen higher enrollment, and I attribute this to fine leadership by Mr. Keen and a strong staff behind him.

  7. me says:

Thats odd, i was under the understanding that ivy tech was a state run, and state funded school, i guess i learn something new everyday.

You want to know who else expanded their bounderies, increased its population and built bigger and better then before. Hitler. Doesn’t make him a good guy.

And for the record i am not compareing anyone to hitler, just pointing out the dumbass logic.

  8. chris martin says:

there are other examples out there of people who were louses in their personal lives yet did admirable work in the jobs that they compromised with their extracurriculars.
jim bakker, jimmy swigart come to mind.
tell me, concerned student, would you be so quick to forgive them? just wondering, since it seems no one else did.

  9. Russell says:

Concerned Student represents the mind-numbed idiocy of students today. His wise and seasoned instructors haven’t bothered to explain to him that half (or more) of his education is being borne by the public.

His parents never told him, he doesn’t bother to look into it himself, and he’s not smart enough to observe the in-state / out-of-state disparity in his bills from college.

This is a simple and sad example of how screwed we are moving forward when students think they are paying for their whole education simply cause Obama doesn’t cut them a Pell Grant check.

  10. Martin says:

I feel bad when people’s lives (mistakes) become so public, yet my question is how is it that Dr. Keen can come back on campus to assist in the transition (I think it will be fine under Dr. Baker’s influence) and how come he deserves to be paid until October. Most of the time when one is disloyal, lies, cheats, steals at the workplace: usually you are asked to pack up your desk and be GONE! I guess the State does have extra money that won’t go into educational programs….as you are paying someone who stole, and felt he was beyond “policy”…yep I want him to continue to assist in transition he has demonstrated his intergrity…also Protective Orders are given out for a reason (at sometime Dr. Keen lacked other “good choices” towards his family-usually it is for violance…yep I him back on campus…he is a walking time bomb! Leave him at his camper to work through his issues and keep others safe on campus!

  11. crafty says:

Well, well, well aren’t we just the informed one. Sometimes Protective orders are given out when women don’t tell the truth. Sometimes the media likes to make a scandal when there really isn’t one. Oh no that could never happen. Maybe the media should have looked into the fact that Dr Keen just might have tried to rent an apartment but was not allowed to get the financial information needed to rent one because of the bogus protective order. Maybe someone should look at the other Keen instead of thinking that she left him because he was (gay). Maybe the world would be a better place if people would GET A LIFE instead of trying to smear someone that is a good person. Hey here’s an idea… Why don’t you all go take a look in the mirror.I know for a fact that there was no money taken. Want to know how I know? I investigated before I listened to gossip. maybe the media should do that. As for going to the trailer, ther are quite a few people that would love to be so fortunate to live in this so called trailer.

  12. Martin says:

It is what it is…live with family or friends, now there is an idea..good people do stupid things..stealing and lying are stupid things that most good people don’t do…so maybe you and your friend need to Get a Life…an honest one! Gossip is one thing…yet there was too much to deny.

  13. me says:

To crafty, If he did not steal any money, why is he repaying over 5K. If he was not giving his gay buddies better jobs why was he fired. He stole public money (mine) and spent it on himself. He should be in jail so quite defending him, its quite obvious by the way you put the word gay in parentheses, you are defending him solely based on his sexual orientation so open your mind. This has nothing to do with if he is or is not gay.

BTW, i looked in the mirror like you said and guess what, I’ve never stole money, lived anywhere i was not suppose to or given any freinds special treatment in a state agency.
