Listen, we know you’re tired of flipping those burgers, mowing lawns and picking vegetables, so we’re going to give you free vacations and force your employers to pay for it. After all, in France they have to give you thirty days of paid vacation, why should the U.S. be any different?

Rep. Alan Grayson was standing in the middle of Disney World when it hit him: What Americans really need is a week of paid vacation.

So on Thursday, the Florida Democrat will introduce the Paid Vacation Act — legislation that would be the first to make paid vacation time a requirement under federal law.

The bill would require companies with more than 100 employees to offer a week of paid vacation for both full-time and part-time employees after they’ve put in a year on the job. Three years after the effective date of the law, those same companies would be required to provide two weeks of paid vacation, and companies with 50 or more employees would have to provide one week.

The concept here is pretty clear. If you have more employees, you must have more money. If you have more money, we need to take more money and give it to those that don’t, capiche?

From Grayson press release:

TAKE BACK YOUR TIME Executive Director John de Graaf …

“This is a very modest bill,” says de Graaf. “But we support it wholeheartedly and congratulate Congressman Grayson for introducing it and helping open a dialogue about why vacations matter, how deprived Americans are when it comes to paid time off, and why we must act now to improve the situation.” He points out that a poll conducted last year by TAKE BACK YOUR TIME found that half of all Americans took less than one week of vacation last year.

If we’re going to continue our march towards becoming a socialist country, it’s the right thing to do, no?
