Officers pulled several people over today for ignoring the ‘Road Closed to Through Traffic” signs at Dell Cove, Wood Moor, and Ridge Knoll Drives and using them as a shortcut from Illinois to Hadley, or vice versa. They even got my neighbor for pulling onto the street for not wearing a seat belt, but I believe she may have only received a warning.

I counted over 40 cars in a half hour, and normally we may get that many in an entire day. We have several families on the street with small children, and some of these knuckleheads are traveling at well over 40-50 MPH. One family not far from me has four kids under 7 years-old that constantly are at the end of their driveway on their bikes. It’s a 30 MPH zone. If you are going to cut through, slow the hell down and be prepared to get pulled over.

Best advice, put up with the construction and follow the rules.

One Response to “Beware Hadley Road short cutters”
  1. I grew up in Inverness Hills and the police loved to sit in there and get people speeding down Hadley. Even though I have gotten almost double digit speeding tickets (9 in 6 states and 2 countries … yeah I got one in Australia … what?), none of them have been on Hadley – probably becuase I was either slowing down into or speeding up out of the neighborhood.

I too used to ride my bike through all those neighborhoods as a child, I just knew to stay out of the way of those pesky cars ;)
