This morning the news broke regarding the murder of 8 year-old Sandra Cantu. Melissa Huckaby, 28, was arrested and charged on suspicion of kidnapping and killing the young girl. I read this first on Fox News and they had the picture of a Melissa Huckaby, but it was the wrong Huckaby.
The first picture is the correct Huckaby.
Fox has changed the picture, but there is no mention of the mistake. Several other news agencies did the same thing.
Below is a screen shot of the Post Chronicle’s web site regarding the story. They are using both the correct picture and an incorrect one of another Melissa Huckaby.
The picture of the wrong Melissa Huckaby was obviously lifted from her MySpace page. Below is a screen shot of that page. Note the message on the right side. “Miss Awissa just so you are all aware…I am NOT the Melissa huckaby associated with the Sandra Cantu case.”
How would you like to wakeup to your face being plaster all over the Internet as a child murderer?

heck no I wouldn’t want to wake up and see my picture plastered everywhere as the killer. I hope she sues their pants off!
It is disgraceful that the media would not double check or even triple check that they have the right person before lifting a person’s image from a social networking site. This poor lady is unfortunate to have to live with her name being the same as a suspected murderess and, no doubt, some people will always just assume she is one and the same.
I, too, hope she sues the news organizations who perpetrated this grave misdeed. Maybe she could contact John Morgan who is acting on behalf of Zenaida Gonzalez in the Casey Anthony debacle.
I am friends with the WRONG Melissa Huckaby and the POOR woman has been HARASSED by many people on her myspace page and has had media contacting her and her parents non stop…I’m GLAD this got out there and I HOPE that Melissa goes after the media for this crap…she has been scared to leave her house since her name was let out…and For the Record Huckaby is her MAIDEN name she has been married so they had the wrong person from the get go looking at her.
Does the accused not have a job? May she be a stay at home mom? Why is every news station focused on the fact that she taught Sunday School? You don’t hear of many career Sunday School teachers. This is another attempt by the media to make christians look bad in society while nothing bad can be said of the Muslims.
Pray for the family of the little victim, no matter what!
I will confirm that she is not the same person… The picture they used is my EX WIFE. Please pray for everyone involved especially for the family that lost their child. Melissa and I have two girls together a 7 year old and a 5 year old. I can only imagine what the family of the Cantu girl is going through. For myself I was in complete shock to see this happen to my ex and I really hope that the media will learn from their mistake. “Please hold the Cantu family up in prayer” – God Bless

Yep. Media carelessness became reckless slander of our church member. Wrong photo, Fox!
The Melissa you trashed is a wonderful Christian whom blessed us yesterday with her part in our churches new choir – in addition to her other participation. She has never harmed anyone and didn’t deserve to have herself associated with such a heinous act as taking the life of a child.
In contrast, the Melissa that was arrested has a reported track record (according to the news media – if there’s any truth to what they say) that would make anyone wonder what kind of a relationship she has with Jesus.
Our prayer goes out to both of these Melissa’s.

Hint to the Media: Stick with official mug shots.
Wow. The only way that Melissa S. Huckaby could look worse is if she was ID’ed as a Terrorist guilty of mass murder.
Oh, a little hint to Reporters: MySpace (and other social sites) can have pages of people with the same name as the infamous, but not be them! In fact, there’s Celebrity pages out their NOT even ran by the said Celebrity.
I hope Melissa S. Huckaby gets an 8 figure settlement from those involved with this theft of her safety & reputation.
