Rowe and Weicht Selected as New Steuben County Political Party Chairs
Saturday, March 7, 2009(ANGOLA) – When it comes to party politics in Steuben County, the “Good Old Boys Club” is now officially closed. The so-called “glass ceiling” was shattered on Saturday morning as two women were chosen to be the chairs of the major political parties in Steuben County for the next four years. Republicans chose Susan Weicht to take over for Tony Culver while Democrats selected Judy Rowe as their new party chair. Weicht ran unopposed while Rowe ran against John Heinze. Rowe takes over from Gene Kennedy who decided not to seek another term. Culver also decided not to run again after serving as the G.O.P. Party chair since the mid 90′s when he succeeded Dick Dodge. Also during Saturday’s reorganization meetings, Gary Crum was named as the Steuben County Republicans Vice Chair while the Democratics selected Elten Powers for the same position. Both Weicht and Rowe have been active in their polictial partys for several years. Weicht says Culver did a great job as party chair and she hopes to get more people involved in the political process especially young people. Rowe pledged to make her party more visible in the community.
