Here we go again folks.
From a local news source:
The House Public Policy Committee voted 7-5 Wednesday morning to approve a statewide smoking ban that was diluted with amendments only moments before.
House Bill 1213 now has exceptions for bars, casinos, private clubs and tobacco stores.
It does allow local ordinances that are more restrictive to stand if they are approved before Jan. 1, 2010.
Rep. Phil GiaQuinta, D-Fort Wayne, voted against the exceptions but supported the bill. Rep. Matt Bell, R-Avilla, voted for the amendments watering down the legislation and then voted against the bill.
“I’m more comfortable with these decisions being driven by the market,” Bell said.
The legislation now goes to the full House.
It’s too bad they’re allowing local ordinances to stand. With the loss of the 412 Club, the Acme Grill and dozens of other local establishments it could possibly breath a little life back into the local economy. Also, I bet quite a few establishments would opt to continue to prohibit smoking.

Now that the smoking ban has been in existence. It should now be repealed. With those bars that think business improved with the smoking ban, keep it. Those who saw their business decrease because of the ban can lift it. But since the government has to tell us what bars we can go into and ones we can’t. This won’t happen. I’m a non smoker by the way.
