WATER MAIN REPAIRS CLOSE LAKE AVENUE BETWEEN LAVERNE, BEACON

Drivers should use alternate route

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Lake Avenue between Laverne Avenue and Beacon Street is closed to through traffic while City Utilities repairs a water main break that happened earlier today. The closure is expected to last until after 6 p.m.

The water main break caused lower water pressure to customers from downtown to approximately Washington Center Road.

The City of Fort Wayne recommends drivers use State Boulevard between Coliseum and Randalia.

End update

The city has a water main break downtown which was caused by construction at Harrison Square. They’ve not sent out a press release regarding this. The problems started yesterday, appeared to have been repaired, but then started again today around 10:00 a.m.

I received this non-related alert from the city at 12:30:

MEDIA ALERT:

North Fort Wayne Experiencing Low Water Pressure:
Water Main Break at Lake and Hobson

Fort Wayne, Ind. – City Utility crews are working to repair a large water main that broke at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Hobson Road this morning. The break is causing low water pressure in many neighborhoods in the north part of the City.

I just spoke with someone in the affected area and there is orange and brown water now running from the taps. Where’s the boil order? Here’s the guidlelines:

BOIL WATER ORDERS AND ADVISORIES (Please post in food-service area and inform all employees of these guidelines.) According to Fort Wayne City Utilities, a Boil Water Advisory is issued when some type of event has created the potential for contamination to enter the water supply and on direct sample evidence of contamination is present. A Boil Water Order is issued when there is direct sample evidence that the system is contaminated.

With all the bad news surrounding Harrison Square, on the surface this appears to be selective reporting by the city? It makes you wonder what else they may be holding back.

  1. This water main break didn’t happen this morning. I drive to work via Lake Avenue every day and noticed it at least five days ago. It’s been seeping up through the concrete all this time. Problem is this is perhaps the FOURTH time they’ve attempted to fix the same section. Let’s hope they do it right this time and fix it once and for all.

I can tell you that Snyder H/S was WITHOUT water today since just before noon and into most of the afternoon.

Bubling water from a street is NEVER a good sign.

Had an incident occur in Philly way back in the early 1990s.
Water was coming through a small hole in the middle of one of the approaches to the Tacony/Palmyra Bridge. The Water Dept. was called by several people that reported it for 2-3 days. Then on the third night, around 2AM, I heard an explosion (I lived less than a 1.2 mile from there), and there was about a FIFTY foot deep crater in the middle of the daamn street.

    Part 2-
The people had three fee tof water in their absements most all the night and into the early AM, and it took close to a month to fix the damn thing. Lots of insurance claims and even a few lawsuits.
SO NEVER underestimate the power of water pressure…or a broken FOUR foot water main.
