From Michelle Malkin:
The anonymous trashing of Sarah Palin by blabbermouth McCain aides who are leaking to Fox News is disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.
Allah’s got the vid clip of a report citing unnamed McCain staffers accusing Palin of lacking, in Carl Cameron’s words, “knowledgeability.” More slime here. And here.
At least all the Hollywood and Manhattan Palin-haters were willing to sign their names and put their faces on their attacks.
More here.
It’s no wonder the Republican Party is in tatters.

And the party will stay in tatters until they realize that there are those of us who won’t tolerate smearing people like this. I don’t count on that happening. I’ve had enough and am looking into the Libertarian Party because I think their views are closer to mine.
Conservatism will rise again. This is the last dying breath of the John McCain camp who wasn’t conservative by any means. His aides are smearing the only factor that got him anywhere close to Obama, and that just shows how sad and pathetic Mccain and his camp has always been.
Now, we move forward.
I read Michelle’s page eariler today, and I was WTF???
Like I said, the lesser of two evils.
(well, they’re catching up now)
Libertarians & Independents ARE looking better and better…shame that the MSM doesn’t acknowledge their existence.
(best kept secret in this country)
This is why conservatives and the majority of the republican party have not liked mccain and his buddies for years. The way he treated Bush the last eight years, and more importainly the past 4 months. He has made his name by screwing the supporters who get him where he is. Now its her turn.
Last spring it was thought the conservitives would back him because he would be the lesser of two.
Guess what, they were wrong.
The most recent numbers i have seen showed a 2% increase in dem votes. A 3% decrease in gop votes. Bush 04 voters did not vote for obama, they didn’t vote.
Who knows, maybe the silver lining in all this is that Mccain and his wing of the party are done and the conservitives can retake control of our party.
The party is getting to be ridiculous. Nominating the LEAST conservative candidate from the slate and then running a campaign that has nothing to do with shrinking the government in the face of an economic meltdown.
This party needs to become a home for conservatives again. Neo-Conservatism will never win over informed voters.
These three pillars are my idea of a perfect republican party:
1) A constitutional amendment not allowing the Govt to run a deficit. This amendment would be preceded by drastic cuts in spending shifting power to more local forms of govt.
2) Slowly dismantle Social Security and Medicare – taking care of those who have been taught to be dependent while letting all others opt out.
3) Changing our military policy to be one of DEFENSE not OFFENSE.
No party could possibly lose while standing under these three pillars.

1- If the GOP takes a hard turn toward the right they will end up forcing independents and middle-right people toward the middle left. This group did vote in this election.
2- Had the financial crisis had not happened I think you would be looking at President Elect McCain.
3- Bush did allow the budget just to explode all over the place. He could have vetoed bills and jump all over the spending. My gut tells me he sold the budget out to some Democrats to keep the votes he needed on Iraq. Just my thought.
4- Barack Obama and Sarah Palin shared one thing in common. They used simple words that the average person on the street understood. Washington people just can not get over using big terms and talk in complex speak. If you can not talk to the level of the group you appear before you turn them off.
5- Some of the GOP “Hot Button” issues are no longer such with people today. For whatever reason they just do not rank as high on the charts as many far right people think.
6- Right here in Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels picked his place to appear with Sen. McCain. He was not willing to spend five cents of political capitol in helping McCain. However, I am very sure Mark Souder picked up a few votes by appearing on stage with Sarah Palin, at the Coliseum.
7- Hillary & Bill Clinton spent a great deal of thier political capitol in supporting Obama. It all but doomed Hillary’s future run for President. Then again her $21 million debt will be taken care of. Who knows for sure?
So from a middle right person I offer the food for thought. Obama started from the far left and moved toward the right to grab victory. The far right can not go out tho that extend and think they can win elections outside of some small isolated areas.
JQ
What I’m talking about is completely REDEFINING what it means to be on the far right.
For smaller govt in every area – not in just the easy areas.
Honesty regarding the future of social security and medicare.
For defensive policies and against offensive wars.
No serious candidate has ever stood on these planks and continued with them after winning.
You will not lose the middle right if you move the party right. Look at history. When the gop has run on a conservitive agenda they have won. Look at 94. The gop took control on a conservitive agenda and have been slow losing since as they have moved closer to the center.
If the lesson learned from this election is the gop needs to move closer to the center, that would be the wrong lesson to learn. We tried that and failed badly. Evertime we try the center rought we fail. So why keep trying.
Brad, I understand now what you are saying and I agree with the REDEFINING. It also means new blood. For most of the same group of people to run in 2012 may be highly risky. I am not saying that a moderate could not redefine themself.

The modeal of the voter has changed. Regardless if you or I like it. So what worked in 1994 or even 2004 has changed. There is a new game with new rules. The GOP needs to develop their own information system via the internet. They need to bypass the mainstream media in getting their message out.
Here is an example. Many GOP are against extending unemployment comp because it reportly breeds people not looking for work. In good times that is a good arguement. But right now it is a pretty stupid arguement. Millions are unemployed and trying to stay in their homes. With extended unemployment they could maybe continue to make their house payments. Without it there is no chance in hell of them doing it.
J. Q. you make a good point, but i see things differantly.
McCain lost because he sucks. If center right or center was the way to go he would have won. Look at the senators who lost, most were in the middle. Go back 2 years and look who lost then. It was not conservitives who lost their seats. To say we need to move center when everytime we do we lose will be the end of the party and any hope of winning again.
Conservitivism wins everytime its tried. Look at mitch, 20% landslide.
Mitch Daniels IS a fine example of conservatism in motion, but he also had one major asset that McCain did not: a positive message.
John McCain has nothing positive to say. Essentially, his basic campaign was “I am not Obama” and before that it was “I am not Hilary Clinton.” Even during the Primary, he was only nominated because of the infighting among the other candidates.
John McCain is not, and never was, a conservative. He represents everything that is wrong with the Republican party since 1998. He did not lead, he simply slung mud. He had no executive experience, but claimed he could govern. He was a friend and ally of Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama.
The Republican party had better get a clue as we move forward. Newt Gingrich is allegedly seeking the leadership of the DNC, and that will be a poison pill after his work with HRC on global warming. Democrats are not our friends or our allies; they are not a model to be aspired to and emulated; democrats are socialist leaning liberals and should be defeated and shamed in their anti-American principles.
John Q,
What if we took a different stance and stopped paying for unemployment coverage all together? Don’t you think that companies would offer it to their employees as a benefit? Either by purchasing private insurance or by negotiating severance as they do with their executives? States may choose to offer this coverage – maybe they could float the length of time coverage is offered by a more localized unemployment rate.
This should not be a federal issue.
Brad S
Brad,
First, unless you are extreme upper levels of large companies you do not sign contracts. You work “at will!” Be it white or blue collar.
I do not think companies would offer unemployment comp package. Do you know some small companies dump employees who has a familiy member with long term health care issues that will result in their insurance costs? So I find it hard to believe they would OFFER a package to those who they lay off.
Unemployment Comp is a tax a company pays based on payroll size. It caps out for the company if they have so much in the fund that more then covers their payroll based on a formula. So it is no diff then a payroll tax the company pays much like SS or Medicare. It is figured in as overhead in doing business. This tax is not paid for by the general taxpayers.
I think you do have an idea on setting some standards to what is going on in a regional or local level.
$390 a week (max amount paid in Indiana) for a family that is use to earning over $1,000 a week is hardly a gold mine. At most it will allow them to just to get by. I do not see many people thinking they could retire for 13 weeks on $390 if they had been making $1,000. Common sense also tells you that most people know the 13 weeks will be quickly gone and then there will be no money.
Of course they could go to township for help, which comes directly from property taxes.
Maybe we should just kick them all to the streets and let them die in the gutter. Shut off their health care and let them die… They deserve it because they lost their job through no fault of their own…. Serves them right Brad.

Take two things out of the election and McCain would have won going away. No, not a landslide but a exact reversal.
Here in Indiana had it not been for the 90% plus black vote for Obama the vote would have been real close. Had Obama not connected to the youth vote with things they knew little about McCain would have won.
Obama provided the best sales pitch anyone has ever seen. The hell with facts and if many of the things will ever happen. Appeal to the masses and he did such.
Everyday since he was elected he has started the retreat from his SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE.
Had the GOP showed some damn leadership in Congress both on budget and the mess with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac things could have played out in reverse. No, the GOP did not even operate from the middle but from the left with regards to the budget. Between the President and Congress the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac issue could have been buried three or four years ago.
Look at the internall polling by all the polls. They gave McCain a huge vote in being able to run the country while Obama was some distance behind. People where conflicted and I think many votes where done as an act of pure hope and not based on reason.
The GOP needs to take to the internet and explain policy in terms all people understand and why. 90% of the population do not understand trickle down or trickle up. What they know is what is on their paycheck every friday.
What they know is gun rights are OK but still see a problem of so many people killing each other with guns. Most people do not think having a gun in your house to shoot someone invading it as a cure.
Capitol punshiment plat form is a joke. It needs serious reform that certain things must be met to take someone’s life. While the GOP is represent the conserv. view point but we allow and desires courts to have weaker standards to get a conviction that can result in taking a person’s life. We have DA’s so hell bent that they and the police lie to get a conviction and take someone’s life. What kind of country do we live in?
Education – The GOP needs to develop a working model that does work. Take a look at charter schools which most GOP people support. Most work very well and we need to convince the public this is the way to go. Form a task force of teachers who work in private, faith based, and charter schools. Provide a system that does not destroy school unions but one that would work within a union enviorment.
Cuba – Get over it. It is a plain stupid policy that does not work. Heck any American can fly to Cuba and vacation. Fly to Canada and grab a flight to Cuba with a special paper you carry with your passport. Cuba does not have an ideal government but neither do a majority of other countries we deal with daily. Maybe we should wait until Russia decides to try placing missles there again. That will be fun.
I could go on but that is not the point. The point is the GOP needs to understand the vast population of the US has changed. While I believe the greatest group tend toward the right but they no longer buy into the extreme right.
Then again the GOP can continue fight within the party and each fractured group can fight to be king of the hill the only result is future losses.
Even Obama has seen the light. He has already started back tracking on the issues and pledges he made. By March his campiagn pledges will be one more thing tossed on the fires of history.
JQ,
Any tax levied on the employer that can be directly linked to hiring an individual employee will decrease the amount of money the employer is able to pay that employee. I would much rather have my employer pay me directly the amount they pay in unemployment, Soc Security, and Medicare so that I could save and invest it to provide for myself. If there were an opt-out provision these programs would be more just.
As a middle ground, would you be against letting those who wish to do so opt-out of these systems (and I mean employees opting out – not employers)?

None of what you brought up hits whats wrong. Center right is a joke. It fails. Why beat a dead horse when we know its dead. Center right loses, conservitism wins.
history (even recent history) proves it.
That is why the infighting is needed.
