Mike “Mr. Ed” Montagano guilty of violating campaign finance laws?
Posted by: AWB in Congressional Races
On the heels of one local campaign finance mess comes this. A local news rag is reporting that “Democratic congressional candidate Michael Montagano’s father has bankrolled his son’s living expenses – a violation of campaign laws..”
The National Republican Congressional Committee filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission stating Montagano has had zero in the way of income since the middle of 2007, but managed to buy a $326,000 Elkhart County home with his father and also drives a big-ass gas guzzling Hummer. Montagano’s Hummer was seen downtown yesterday near Toscani’s with a parking ticket on the windshield. I wish the person that had seen that would have snapped a photo.
According to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s complaint, Montagano “accepted payment for routine living expenses from his father after he became a candidate for federal office. There appears to be no history of his father paying his living expenses prior to his becoming a candidate. As such, these payments constitute excessive contributions to Montagano for Congress.”
Nice job Mikey!

Someone should get Common Cause on that right away.
OK, so where the hell is Dan Sigler NOW, hmm????
(what works on ONE foot should work on the OTHER foot, right?)
I find it hard to believe that his dad hasn’t paid for more of his living expenses in the past.
Isn’t this the same kind of thing that Ted Stevens is in court for right now?
I assume you mean guilty of *violating* campaign finance laws?
so who cares if dad paid for his house?? I suppose you want his car too.. that is sad. I don’t care if he is a dirt bag.. What can he do in two years? NOTHING! Heck, SOUDER THE LIAR hasn’t done anything in years!
The biggest problem I have with all of this is that souder told us when he beat jill long that he was against career politics and that he would be out in three terms.. I think that was about three terms ago… get rid of the old dog and then next go around lets get rid of the young punk and finally get a good rep.
In the face of the Matt Kelty fiasco, how can a candidate turn his back on these campaign finance laws? Montagiwhatever must have also filed a false report on his finances that excluded dear old Dad.
Assemble a Grand Jury and the lawyers can collect another $150,000 from Dad. This sounds like a job for our Attorney General.
Dan:
Please list all the bad things Souder did that hurt this area?
Oreo:
Souder voted for the bailout. That hurts Northest Indiana. That also hurts Southeast Indiana, Southwest Indiana, and Northwest Indiana.
