Editor’s third note: WANE TV has it on their web site, and since Glenna has requested a second post I’m putting the original back up.
Dear friends,
By now you have probably heard that Matt Kelty plead guilty to several felonies earlier today. While I am very disappointed by this turn of events, I know Matt is doing what he believes he has to given the circumstances and in light of the needs of his family. I dont think any of us will ever know what pressure he has had to deal with since the accusations were first brought against him over a year ago. I know that Matts faith is firmly rooted in the Lord Jesus Christ who will carry him through these difficult times as he is being tried in the fiery furnace.
While this is not the outcome we were praying for, take heart, I know of two very important instances in the bible where someone was wrongfully accused and mistreated - Joseph was accused by Potiphers wife and then jailed despite being innocent. Jesus was accused, jailed, beaten, & crucified despite being innocent. God vindicated Joseph, eventually making him prime minister of the most powerful nation of that era. Through Calvary, God used the enemys evil intent to overcome death, hell, & the grave by raising Jesusfrom the dead and victoriously seating Him at His right hand. By this we can be assured that God will have the last word in this case…God can and will use what the enemy meant for evil for good. No matter how things look, we just have to trust that Gods grace if sufficient in these circumstances and that there is a greater purpose for this surprising turn of events that may look like defeat at the hands of the enemy.
While I hate to see a good friend go through all of this persecution, I am more disturbed because this outcome speaks loudly of the level of corruption that is entrenched in Fort Wayne. That the powers that be can urge Matt in a threatening letter right after he won the primary, You need to step down from your bid as Mayor and you need to do it soon…The Republican party wants the Mayors seat back…They will not allow you to continue campaigning for this office. You are going to be charged with campaign finance fraud, they have no choice…A felony conviction is hard to overcome…
That this anonymous letter was not just an idle threat, but was something they were able to fully deliver on, means that in our city, Hamans gallow takes the form of a Grand Jury gotcha system. This unfortunately casts a serious chill over all our freedoms and the political process in particular, since anyone who dares to defy the demands or dictates of the good ole boy thugs will have to weigh in advance whether they want to risk their ire or face treatment similar to that Kelty received. When a good man is destroyed for challenging the party in a fair election, so much for freedom, our constitutional rights, or true justice.
Welcome to Fort Waynes fiefdom!
Glenna Jehl

Is this woman for real? Really - can she stop with the biblical references and the persecution/conspiracy theories??? I guess people do whatever they have to do to get through the day. Sad.
Truly Kristina, I’m right there with you!
And I find it amusing that the emails that were the smoking gun and seemingly the reason for the plea show her to be complicit in the lies.
She can quote the Bible all she wants, but character is what you do when no one is watching. When she thought no one was watching, she was scheming….. talking about violating election laws, etc. Go ahead and thump your Bible and talk about persecution while behind the scenes you are plotting on how to cheat and lie to the community. Gimme a freakin’ break.
Wait a minute. Who held a gun to his head? Who used a waterboard on Kelty? If he wanted to have his day in court, he didn’t have anyone holding a knife to his throat.
To mention the Bible and Matt Kelty in the same letter should go no further than the one he held his hand on when he swore to tell “the truth, the whole truth and, nothing but the truth, so help me GOD and lied to the Grand Jury.
That he got out of this with only a fine, community service and a chance to have the felonies forgiven shows the best of the system that he tried to subvert. Kelty needs to be on his knees begging everyone to forgive him and thanking his God he’s not in the same cell with some other “poor innocent” wrongly convicted felon!
Kelty’s campaign had a good message and there was some good intent. The problem was that it was not managed very well. If you’re going to go against the establishment, you have to be vigilent and stay on the straight and narrow. There were several missteps taken in the campaign and Glenna Jehl, being the campaign manager, was mainly responsible for it.
I’m not saying that Kelty is totally innocent, I just wonder if the outcome would have been different with someone else running the campaign.
If Jenna and Fred not dreamed up some BS on several levels Kelty would not ended up where he did yesterday. Jenna is more worried about protecting herself and moving on.
Not once did I see either her of Fred Rost tell Matt that they needed to be honest. These clowns rolled a grenade into the room and Kelty decided to jump on it trying to protect what he thought was friends.
I wonder who turned the emails over?
Does this mean he can never vote again since he, in essence, is a convicted felon?
Probably someone under a Court Order Subpoena who decided the law was something to obey instead of weasel out from under.
I personally know the person who turned them over. And yes, they were ordered by subpoena to turn over emails. Not complying would have meant breaking the law.
The Kelty campaign made a tremndous amount of errors, among them hiring Jehl to run the campaign. They also made the mistake of taking ownership of a poll that was not solicited nor conducted on behalf of the campaign, and then filing it as an in-kind contribution in their campaign finance reports. That was stupid. If I recall correctly, the poll was first published on this web site.
Matt didn’t jump on a grenade. He lied. He knew who funded it and he lied.
When you have people like the Hoots and Jehls in your camp, how could you expect anything less? If Matt had employed professionals to run his campaign he would never have been placed in this position. Instead he had cake bakers and conspriacy theorists running the show.
I feel for his family and hope the media circus surrounding this stops soon. It’s over. Time to move on.
I am really disappointed by these latest developments. I really wish I knew what REALLY is going on. I have a feeling these emails are just a tip of the iceburg.
It’s really unfortunate.
The rest of the “iceberg” is in Matt’s head. He lied “Real Conservative” to the Grand Jury. Pretty simple stuff.
I know he didn’t tell the truth. The emails from Rost to Kelty were dated in April. When did the GJ indict him? June? July? ft Wayne Left had an interesting post to his blog back in November 2007… in it he said, “with friends like Rost, Kelty doesn’t need any enemies”.
There’s a lot… a LOT that goes on in elections with regard to money that most people don’t know about. Heck, look at our presidential campaigns. Imagine the corruption and lies going on there. High profile figures give lots of money and want to remain anonymous. Then someone starts poking around and wants names… so someone else steps in and says, “it’s from me!”.
right.
Matt Kelty just wanted to run a clean campaign and run for office on the issues. Unfortunately, he put his trust and confidence in the wrong people. Glenna Jehl was the wrong person for the job. These are practical matters and human mistakes. To spiritualize everything surrounding the Kelty campaign is downright spiritually immature in my opinion. When you tell a lie, it comes out. But in the grand scheme of things, what happened with Matt Kelty is about as stupid and ridiculous as my kid lying to me about snitching a cupcake. You all might think this was a horrible gross unforgiveable sin, but who really gives a damn who commissioned a poll to get people’s opinion about what is shaping up to be a financial failure on the part of the city? Who cares that Matt Kelty got a personal loan from Fred Rost and then contributed that money to his own campaign.
Does anyone really give a rat’s a**?
So why did you take down her letter? Are you trying to “save” her? Life is played straight up and that is what Jehl di and that is what she got caught doing now you are protecting her. Nice liberal media trick….
I take something from the store without paying for it— its just like taking a cupcake my Mom told me not too. No big deal. I shouldn’t listen to those evil people that tell me to take stuff from stores without paying for it. (Need new advisors). It was a Grand Jury to investigate campaign finance fraud. He was under oath to a Grand Jury. What part does this aspiring Mayor/Congressman not understand about that? and why doesn’t he understand it? Politics stinks but the law is the law. Money in elections is corrupt in this Country but just because “everybody is doing it” doesn’t make it right—thats what my Mom taught me.
The love and loyality for Matt Kelty will not be diminished by the legal and media circus that nit picked and magnified infractions . Self preservation was probably the cause of his plea bargain rather than an admission of guilt.
The lesson learned is not loss of respect for Matt Kelty , but for a legal system that could be manipulated against him and for his abandonment by the local Republican party.
Nit pick? Come on Paul, don’t drink the Kool-aide! No matter how he got there, no matter who was mad or not, the fact is this: HE BROKE THE LAW! There is a paper trail that shows this, and no matter if you are a conservative or a liberal, you set yourself up for serious problems when you do what he did. I think it is ironic that Glenna advised him and held his hand and is now coming off like she is… She gave him the corrupt advise, and then talks about how he was gonna wipe out the corruption…. So I guess he is doing a great job, because his campaign was the first to go..
What a disaster! Lame-Duck Tom is the best choice. He may not get anything done, but atleast as a Henry he is good at hiding his wallet.
The law is the law. Latter day Rome had this little problem too. They did not understand that the law rules and put man on the throne. The infraction is not being able to communicate truthfully and it is a serious problem.
I totally agree with you Paul. I totally respect Matt for getting on WOWO this morning and apologizing….how many politicians do that? Quite honestly, he had nothing to gain my doing that since he’s not going to run for anything again.
I’m not impressed with the Democratic party and have lost respect for the Republican party in this county. May be the time to look to the Libertarian party for me.
1Samuel 16:7
Thank you Paul, enough said.
“The law is the law”
I know that the elected Republican officials were within the bounds of the law when they ignored the authority of the election board, bypassed the circuit court and went straight to special prosecutor. But the fact remains that there were other options available and they chose one that would eliminate Kelty.
Laws are objective, but the application of laws are subjective. And always will be.
I was troubled by this whole thing because I chose to support Matt Kelty. I’d never heard of him until he started campaigning for mayor. After researching campaign finance law and election law, it became obvious that every penny that Matt Kelty received was legal. Even Kevin Knuth and Andy Downs agree with that. So why the legal circus and lack of latitude for paperwork correction?
Kelty had a great platform!
Peters’ campaign was flat and uninspiring. No matter how many Republican elected officials showed up to take a picture with Nelson Peters, his campaign was a dud.
Kenny: He lied to the Grand Jury, no matter the reason that he got there, he lied to the Grand Jury and then he lied to the people of Fort Wayne. The Grand Jury did it’s job. Common cause went to the Prosecutor, not the Republican Party which was also the correct thing to do by law. It still goes back to the fact that Matt could of told the truth to the Grand Jury, and he did not.
Let your yes be yes and your no be no, anything else is evil. Do not swear on anything. Jesus Christ, New Testament
I am loyal to “truth” and disloyal to “lies.”
As I watch this unfold those of us whom have an opinion is this: We are sick and tired of politics as usual and we really do want change! I really wanted Matt Kelty to make a big run of honesty because I know his family and I,Personally want to see this city survive with new vision!! I think that is what we are all mad about!
Mark: I am mad because Matt had the City behind him and he took the wrong road, he listened to the wrong people when he knew what was right and what was wrong and he chose wrong. He would of been Mayor instead of this dud we have now.
I find it interesting as all the spotlight has been on Mr. Kelty, there are no questions asked regarding the factor that Glen Hines is allowed to work for Indiana Department of Workforce Development under federal funds, yet no one has even raised an eyebrow. No one raises an eyebrow when Ms. Robinson lies about religious education trailers being on school properties. Yes, Matt may have been one of many who lies, however there is a question to be answered: Why are not the others being caught in lie after lie? ITS disgusting! So, let the filing begin! Who will be first to file with the federals regarding Hines’ Hatch Act violation!
