NORTH KANSAS CITY, MO. — A North Kansas City couple has been left scratching their heads after they became the victims of a political scam.

Steve and Rachel Larman say a strange credit card charge appeared on their statement this month — a $2300 donation to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. The Larman’s say they don’t want this to be about their political affiliation, but they say they’re not about to give the Obama campaign any help from their pocketbook.

They said they notified Chase, their credit card bank, to report the fraud.

“(They) said that they had seen-they were familiar with this,” said Steve Larman. “It was fraud, they believe through telemarketing but they were going to be doing some more investigations.”

[...]

Chase dropped the charge from the Larman’s card. The couple is thankful thay they caught the charge on the card, but worried that others may not see that type of fraud on their own credit cards before it’s too late.

[...]

The Obama campaign said they were aware of the Larman’s story, but did not have any comment.

Voter fraud, intimidation, and now credit card fraud. This guy will stop at nothing.

  1. Oh please….. seriously?

This story is analogous to me walking into Macy’s with your credit card, charging stuff to you. In that situation, would you even potentially consider claiming that “Macy’s is guilty of credit card fraud”? No, it’s completely ridiculous.

Credit card fraud, and identity theft happen all the time (what’re the numbers these days? 1 in 5 have had their identity stolen?). I’m sure if we dig deep enough we’ll find credit cards that have fraudulently been used for BOTH candidates.

    Total non-story.

  2. Derek,

Sorry, I have to disagree since the Obama campaign had no comment. When you consider that they’re registering Dead people. Fake people. Cartoon characters. Come on. This is nothing more than the screwed up left doing anything they can to win this election. It’s apparent that an Obama supporter did this, and it was more than likely a campaign staffer.

    $2300.00…it’s only Change!

  3. (a) Federal Election Law *requires* that people who collect registration forms turn them in *regardless of how they’re filled out*. In other words, if I’m collecting voter registrations on the sidewalk and I watch you fill it out as “Daffy Duck”, election law *requires* me to turn it in even though I know it’s bogus. If I just disregard that form, throw it away, or whatever, *I* am breaking the law. Is that somewhat dumb? Yes and no. If you put that level of “judgment” to disregard registrations, it *will* be abused (again, by both sides) as they place higher levels of scrutiny to folks who checked the opposing party’s box on the form. But, the negative is that you end up with bogus registrations. At the end of the day, though, “Daffy Duck” isn’t going to show up and pass-muster at a polling place where members of both parties are part of the process of signing in, etc., so while annoying, its damage is minimal.

    (b) All I’m saying is that credit card fraud is rampant, and I’d be willing to bet if a thorough investigation was done, it’s happening on both sides of the aisle.

And, lest anyone think I’m some rampant Obama apologist, I refer you to http://blog.megacity.org/archives/2008/10/barack-obama-an/ where I completely lambaste him for his horrible understanding of basic economic principles.

  4. I think Obama has a very good understanding of economic principles. It’s just that he is a socialist.

I have a feeling if there was credit card fraud on McCain’s campaign, we would be hearing it on every “news” channel 24/7. Let’s be realistic here.

  5. @fwconservative: and this is why the majority of the population - who sits in the middle of the political spectrum - has a hard time taking any of you (right or left) seriously, because it’s all polarizing black-and-white.

First, the fraud is - again - a non-story. This happens *all the time* on both sides of the aisle, I can almost guarantee it. Credit card fraud is like a multi-billion dollar industry these days. If you think the only candidate who has identity thieves donating to him is Obama, you’re seriously using only “the good drugs”.

And — come on — McCain’s not a socialist as well? Wanting the government to buy up failing mortgages? Giving bailouts to banks to cover their losses? I mean if you’re setting the “socialist” bar at a level that Obama can hit it, then McCain’s decrepit old ass is able to leap over that bar right along-side him.
