Okay, Paul Helmke can kiss my pearly white ass. It’s no wonder only 17 people showed up for breakfast. Live and learn I suppose.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama and Joe Biden won the endorsement Monday of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.
The group is named after Jim Brady, the press secretary to former President Reagan, who was gravely wounded by a gunman who tried to assassinate Reagan in 1981.
Paul Helmke, the organization’s president, said Obama and Biden would strengthen background checks on gun purchasers, get assault weapons off the streets and give law enforcement more tools to stop illegal gun trafficking.
“The Obama-Biden ticket will work with law enforcement, gun violence victims and ordinary citizens who want to do more to protect themselves, their families and their communities by making it harder for dangerous people to get dangerous weapons,” Helmke said in a written statement.
Helmke said Republican presidential nominee John McCain once led on gun violence prevention issues, but has since “pandered to the gun lobby whose opinions he once disdained.”
“His erratic approach to gun violence prevention leads to our concern about whether a President McCain would remember and follow the leadership shown by Senator McCain in 2000 and 2004 and take steps to help reduce gun violence,” Helmke said.
That’s it, he’s back on my digital black list. I apologize to those we offended by inviting him. And as you might guess, he didn’t mention it during the meeting. Chicken-shit.

I couldn’t have expressed the sentiment better. Not a surprise to old Tommy Boy. I’ve had his number for years.
Thanks for informing everyone of Helmke’s real colors – still can not believe this a-hole talks about anything “conservative”.
Please Fort Wayne and interested Americans – don’t be sucked in by guys like this, they are NOT your friend.
Mr. Helmke – do the right thing and admit your a liberal – and you support the democrat party and that you were never a real conservative.
Quit hiding behind the republican moniker, it is not cool.
If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it is a duck.

LIVE…from our new LAPTOP (via FiOS)…
I’m back….and now you know WHY I told you I should NOT attend…Helmke is a closet LIBERAL.
And he still wants my guns…
I…don’t…think…so.

Here is couple of things to file under the old hat …..
1- Bill Ayres, has supported since his bombing days, for the general public to have no guns. Which fits in with Obama’s real view. I guess only terrorists should have weapons. Disarm the general public and people like Ayres and his likes can run around the country free to wage their war.
2- In the Illinois Senate Obama repeatly voted against enhancing the crimes of people who used a gun in the commission of the crime.
So it looks like the general public should not have guns but if a felon has one it OK because we hold it against him.
The golden rule of the socialist movement is to disarm the general public.
I now know for sure what I am going to put on my CHristmas wish list before it becomes illegal. The question is what is the best kind for a newby. Any recommendations??
How about http://www.glock.com/english/glock23.htm for starters. My personal favorite is the http://www.specialoperations.com/Weapons/Pistols.htm. I used a http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m9.htm for years and liked it but the http://www.rt66.com/~korteng/SmallArms/M1911A1.htm was the most fun.
But it’s a personal choice when it comes to handguns.
I carried a Colt .380 for years. Bought a used Glock 27 late last year, spent some time at the range and am a convert Glock fan. I carry the sub compact for size reason’s, but truly love shooting the full size Glock’s of all calibers.
Can’t go wrong with a Glock!
Steve:
Depends on how MUCH you’re willing to spend…
If you wanna go w/ a “saturday night special”, you can get a 9MM for under $200.
Glocks are VERY popular, and there are some nice S&W models out there in all “flavors”.
I like the Walther P99 series, as well as the CZ100, the new S&W M&P, and the Ruger P85, but that’s because I have smaller hands.
In a long gun, get a nice 12 gauge w/ some varied types of shot. Dicks has a very nice H&R 12 gauge shotgun in flat black (Pardner pump)..for ONLY $159. It can hold FIVE rounds to boot!
Above all, get whatever FEELS GOOD for YOU. Is it easy to load, shoot, aim, etc.
Take some time and make a good call…you life “might” depend on it.
Happy hunting and safe shooting.

Wow! Great responses! Especially “whatever feels good.” My wife will love that one. It almost sounds sinful. I love the suggestions and will follow through. Thanks all! BTW, what dealers and shooting ranges do you recommend?
Steve:
As far as shooting “ranges’, most people here would agree that MY NEIGHBORHOOD kinda fills the bill, as does Phil Marx’s…LOL
It’s not a LEGAL, SANCTIONED range, though, if you get my drift.
H&H Firearms up north has a small indoor range.
