On the Ohio Turnpike, gas sold for $3.49 per gallon as of 8/7/08.

It amazes me how Ohio always has much less expensive gas prices.

    85% ethanol for 08 ‘Burban is only $2.99 a gallon…I am such a heathen…
    DRILL HERE!
    DRILL NOW!

    Tim …

I went to Colorado in the first week of June where all good environmentalists ride bicycles in the mountains (honest!). My son loaned me his dual-fuel Silverado which burned E-85 (and regular) and coincidentally sold for 2.99/gal compared to $3.84 regular gas. Don’t give me stuff about that Suburban cause the Silverado only averaged 13.5 mph with E-85 in the Rockies. I never in my life spent so much money on fuel in one week.

tim good to see your input, not sure what a 08 ‘Burban @ $2.99 a gallon
will fill. Now is that the year of the burban.

Joking aside, we agree, and have discussed on blogs for some time that we would see the day of $5 to $7 a gallon for gas just like in Europe.

    Drill here. Drill now.

Let’s tell our public officials in Washington to take a vacation when they meet a deadline and actually accomplish a job well done.

Gadfly, you’re right about the lousy mileage, the thing is, with a Surburban or a Tahoe or Silverado, in my book, the difference between 13 and 14 miles per gallon doesn’t matter. I’ve always had a gas hog and will always have a gas hog. I need a vehicle like that for my line of work, so I just have to adjust (i.e. grin and bear it!).

Gotta hand it to the “techies” at GM in years past…
My 1983 Firebird with a 2.8L V-6, 2BBL carb gets 25-30MPG on the highway (22-25 in the city) even AFTER 25 damn years!
(it’s called keeping it tuned up and functional)
While my wife’s 1996 Caprice Classic with a 4.3L EFI gets about the SAME mileage…and that’s a “boat” by comparison.
It all has to do with the DRAG COEFFICENT which (on my 25 year old firebird) is .33 (LOWER than the ASTON MARTIN VANQUISH – take THAT, James Bond), while my wife’s land yacht is about .35 (same AS the Vanquish and many other so-called “sleek” cars today).

At the time, the Firebird was THE best aerodynamic vehicle on the road (according to Popular Mechanics), and boasted (get this) 42MPG for a manual trans 2.5 EFI engine!!!
Betcha a lot of people would LOVE to have THAT mileage TODAY!

Be nice to take a page from the past in this regard, eh?

    ;)
