LEO, Ind. (WANE) — An officer with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department thought he’d only have to remove about 40 cats from a condemned home in Leo. Instead he found 212.
On July 23, Officer David Baber went to the home located at 15217 Amstutz Road. The home had been condemned by the Allen County Building Department at the request of the Fort Wayne - Allen County Department of Health. The day before, an inspection of the home found feces scattered throughout and there was a strong smell of ammonia.
After more than 40 cats were removed, the homeowner told Officer Baber that she had miscalculated the number and she was really unsure how many cats were inside. The homeowner said that about two and a half years ago, there were just a male cat and two females. She told Officer Baber that all of the cats in the home were descendents of those three cats.
When all of the cats were rounded up, 206 were taken to the animal shelter, five cats were allowed to leave with the homeowner and one cat escaped after scratching Officer Baber.

A 13-year old boy and a 16-year old girl had been living in the home.
I cannot believe they let this obviously crazy woman keep the cats, and what about the children? Now she has enough cats to breed a couple hundred more.
All of the 206 cats taken to the animal shelter were euthanized. Peggy Bender with the Fort Wayne Department of Animal Care and Control said the animals were not fit for adoption and could not be rehabilitated.

This is extremly weird.
Surely the five cats allowed to leave with the home owner were properly fixed, mandated by Animal Control.
Animal Control also places an I.D. chip in the neck. shoulder area
to make sure the animal can be traced to the owner. The I.D. chip has the owner’s name, address, phone number and person/s responsible for their animals.
Obvioulsy, the owner is taking on responsibilty for the five cats left in her care. And at a great cost, looks like this home was a great home until this.
Maybe everyone should fix their pets unless they are professional breeders. Let’s not dump pets in neighborhoods either. If that should
happen check with neighbors, place a free add in lost & found classified ads, and if this does not work; call Animal Control.
Man, and to think I have days where just MY two hellions on 4 paws become a bit much.
But 212???
Geezus H. Tap-Dancing Keehrist!
“What a wonderful SMELL you discovered”
(and why are my eyes constantly watering?)
“OK, so who’s huffing the males’ urine AGAIN…
Kenny, is that YOU?”

(where’s the Sammy Hagar CD?)
I remember listening to Glenn Beck one time where he said he thought a person with 3 cats was crazy. How crazy are you with 212!?
Those people shouldn’t have left with any cats! Those 5 cats apparently were adoptable, and should have been taken away as well.
The punishment for this should be a required top to bottom house cleaning by the owners!
And maybe some volunteer/community service scrubbing zoo cages as well, or the shelter to repay the expense of putting down so many cats.
What is important here? What about the children, should they be put in foster home or sent to live with other relatives? Come on. Those kids were in an unhealthy, disgusting environment. How “sane” is the mother to even still have custody of her children? How much were the children neglected?
As far as the cats, 206 less of those nasty, vile creatures are inhabiting the earth, good!!
Cat the other white meat!!
Community service for the mother might be a first step toward punishment.
