Tom Henry announced that Greg Purcell has accepted an offer to serve as Fort Wayne’s new Deputy Mayor.
Wait a second, didn’t Henry recently say maybe we didn’t need one?
Purcell served as as director of community development and planning under Win Moses starting it 1986, and was retained in that position when it was re-aligned as director of Community and Economic Development after Mayor Paul Helmke was elected in 1988. Purcell was appointed Director of Parks and Recreation by mayor Paul Helmke in 1999, resigning from that position in 2001. Purcell also played a role in the annexations of St. Joseph and Aboite Townships under Paul Helmke.
Purcell, who has served as the County Administrator in Calhoun County, Mich., since January 2001, says he is excited to be coming back to a community with so much happening.
“The downtown projects, Harrison Square and Renaissance Pointe, and the opportunities with the north river area, discussions about co-locating City and County law enforcement departments and possibly moving the City and County offices out of the City-County Building. — It’s all energizing and indicates to me a lot of positive movement in the community,” said Purcell.
I guess he hasn’t been following the blogs. Is he in for a surprise. From what little I know about Greg, he sounds like a good choice to clean-up the droppings left by Graham Richard.

Hire someone originally not needed…sounds like a PERFECT (dumbocratic) plan to SAVE the city some $$$.
Pssst…someone tell Greg he’s gonna need a BIGGER broom to catch all those “droppings”.
