Have you heard of Walk a Mile in Her Shoes? If not take a moment to look at the the brochure (.PDF). It is a national march happening here in Fort Wayne on September 6th at Headwaters Park. The best part is MEN WALK IN HIGH HEEL SHOES! Sexual Violence is a community issue and everyone can be a part of the solution. For sexual violence prevention efforts to be successful we know we need men’s help. Sign up, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, and help raise awareness and pledges for the Rape Awareness Program. Together we can show people who have been affected by sexual violence that we care about what happened to them and we are here for them if they need us. Together we can reach thousands of youth ages 5-18+ with sexual violence prevention programs to teach them to be safe and lead them towards personal empowerment.

Each year, an ever-increasing number of men, women and their families are joining Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a fun opportunity for men to educate the community about a very serious subject and to rally the community to take action to prevent sexualized violence.

First You Walk the Walk

There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s fun and it gets the community to talk about something that’s really difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexual violence.

Sexualized Violence is Not Just a Women’s Issue

001shoesSexualized violence does not just affect women. It affects the men who care about them, their families, their friends, their coworkers, and their communities. Sexualized violence is epidemic. Some of the statistics: Every two minute someone in America is raped. One in six American women are victims of sexual assault. That means someone you know, someone you care about, has been or may become the victim of sexual violence. It may be your mother, your sister, your friend, your girlfriend, your wife, your coworker, or your daughter.

Better have a foot massage appointment set for immediately after the walk……Hell I have a heck of a time walking in heels myself. I hope your ankles a not to shakey. Try a practice walk with them would be a good idea. GOOD LUCK…..I will be watching and taking pictures along with alot of others. WHAT A GUY!!!!! YOU GO AWB!!

  4. Some republicans already do.
and by the way- domestic violence IS terrorism.
more victims die every year( men and women) than 9-11.
the problem is men, and mens atttitudes towards women- chauvinism, sexism, to name a few.
and women who pack guns, and know how to fight, are likely safer than some clueless chicks out there- assuming the police will keep them safe.
change society, and mens attitudes, and we can stop domestic violence( for a lot cheaper than the present war on other kinds of terrorism, for instance.
but what is the greater threat? asshole foreign men overseas, wanting to kill us, or asshole local men, killing our own women?
    you decide.
