A reader found this on the Gun Owners of America Web Site and had this to say.

I had never heard this and the more I think of it, the more troubling it becomes. First, Obama wants to nationalize health care, probably home mortgages too, then gay marriage and now gun control. Obama is really way out there much farther than I think most people really understand.

In spite of what he said two weeks ago, Obama didn’t see the 2nd Amendment as a personal right as a state legislator, he saw it (and one must assume the 2nd amendment freedoms Hoosier’s enjoy) as a menace which the Federal Government should eradicate!

Obama wants a national ban of state Concealed Carry laws.

Obama’s gun record is just simply atrocious.

Oh sure, Obama told Iowa radio listeners last year that he is a “strong believer” in the rights of hunters and sportsmen, and that homeowners should have a firearm “to protect their home and their family.” But then in the next breath, he says, “It’s hard for me to find a rationale for having a 17-clip semiautomatic [sic].”3

Good thing the ban on magazines that Obama supports was not in effect during the Los Angeles riots of 1992. That’s when Korean merchants successfully used their semi-autos — with large magazines containing multiple rounds — to keep looters away from their stores. Their businesses remained standing, even while many others (which were left unprotected) burned to the ground.

Obama supports the existing gun control laws on the books. Nowhere in his literature or in his campaign speeches does he stake out a position in favor of repealing any gun control measure that has passed into law.

Not surprisingly, Obama supports the gun ban in the nation’s capital, saying the “DC handgun law is constitutional.”4 And he is opposed to people using guns for self-defense, when those guns are owned in localities like Washington, DC and Chicago where firearms are banned.

Illinois resident Hale DeMar was prosecuted by the town of Wilmette for using a handgun in his home to defend his family in 2003. Because Wilmette had imposed a ban on the possession of handguns, several Illinois state legislators introduced SB 2165 to protect the right of self-defense for residents like DeMar.

True to form, Obama voted against the pro-gun legislation.5

It is very telling that Obama moved further to the left than most of the liberal legislators in his state. The self-defense bill protecting gun owners like DeMar passed the state senate 41-16 and was later enacted into law over the governor’s veto (and over Obama’s opposition).

The concealed carry of firearms is another important issue for gun owners, and yet Obama is not only opposed to citizens carrying guns, he supports using federal laws to override those states which currently allow the practice.

In 2004, Obama said he supports a national ban on concealed carry because the states that allow it are “threatening the safety of Illinois residents.”6 Never mind the fact that concealed carry laws have improved the safety of citizens in the states that have enacted such laws.7

  1. Tired 'ol Trooper says:

Ah. Here we go again. Spoken like a true sportsman. One who feels he should have a 30 round clip for his 7.62 “sporting firearm”. I’m thinking the NRA will be wanting .50cal as an option the 2010 Hummer.

  2. You might want to lecture the following states on their constitutional provisions which outright regulate concealed weapons:

    North Carolina
    New Mexico
    Kentucky
    Montana
    Missouri
    Louisiana
    Mississippi
    Colorado

The above have actually put into their constitutional provisions the prohibition against carrying concealed weapons.

The Supreme Court did not say it was prohibiting regulation of guns in the recent decision, so gun owners better get a grip because these will all be issues for the courts to now decide.

You can’t have everything, and now that the individual right has been established, it will be regulated just like other rights in the Bill of Rights. None is absolute.

  3. OK, so let’s do the OPEN-CARRY gig then…

(let a prospective perp SEE what will be the last thing he will view on this good earth)

    Show of hands?
    Anyone?

    Bobby…I have BOTH hands up!

  5. fortunately, the supreme court cut the nuts of helmke, brady, and the rest of the treasonous anti-2nd amendment crowd.
so now its a moot issue.
so lets all charter a bus, and travel across state lines to chicago, and have a concealed carry protest in daley plaza- Illinois not only doesnt recognize Indiana gun laws, it also has a DC gun ban- like law.
or lets have a mass protest on the courthouse green- for that matter. why does a non-felon( class a,b,c- not d) and other misc new laws- need PERMISSION-licens/permit/photo- fingerprint/pay money- to EXERCISE A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT- as the supreme court just ruled- for personal protection, and as guaranteed in the Indiana state constitution?
and what of 5o caliber “ranch rifles- muzzle loaders? sharps buffalo rifles, and so on.
I there ever comes a day where there is a 2nd revolution, or civil war, the only thing standing between our constitutional freedoms, liberties, and a fascist government takeover( some would say its already here)- it is the right, and duty of the citizens/population to stand there ground, and fight- anybody recall lexington, and concord? for instance?
by the way- it would be a lot cheaper than the trillions of dollars we are wasting today, to just make like many other popular uprisings/revolutions, and line up the present government against the wall. ( and spank them-since i cant say what you know i’m thinking- due to govt repirsals)
whats the current price of a bullet these days? $1? a case of bullets should be more than ample to finish the job)
a free man disarmed is a slave- why do the blacks want to surrender their hard fought rights again?

  6. Chick with a Glock says:

    Bob G.
One hand up - the other has a good grip ;-)

  7. wow once again… another guy out there trying 2 take all of our guns away… trying 2 destroy the 2nd ammendment. So why bother having any amendments at all then?

  8. Quote:

“Obama wants to ban concealed carry laws”

But somehow in echo chamber speak this translates to:

“Obama wants to ban concealed carry weapons”.

Almost all 50 states have conceal carry laws, there is no federal law regarding concealed carry. Obama, McCain, Bush, Clinton, etc. all support a federal ban on conceal carry laws, they feel as I and probably every gun carrying American that it is not something that should ever be legislated at the federal level and hence a ban on these laws is in order.

So are you all saying you would rather there NOT be a federal ban on conceal carry laws? You want the government deciding what you can and can’t do with your guns? Or would you rather leave it up to the State you live it?
