From Blow-hard NewsCenter …. com
Today a ceremonial landmark in the construction of the new baseball stadium will take place.
Just about a half hour ago, residents and fans joined Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry, former Mayor Graham Richard, previous and current city council members along with many others officials involved in the multi-million dollar project.
[…]
Hundreds of people came out to take part in today’s ceremony….
Yeah whatever. Why does Hinton and NewsCenter have to lie about anything related to Harrison Square?
There were not “hundreds there”. For once Lanka got it right, he said “Dozens of dignitaries, contractors and fans lined up to autograph the final 20-foot steel beam Tuesday morning before it was raised and locked in place”.
Based on these pictures from the Spaulding Brothers, maybe 5 or 6 dozen.

And most of them work for the City…

Ditto Mike, it was a “rent-a-crowd”
It wasn’t very well publicized. I only heard about it the day before, and that’s only because I read What’s Going Down(town)…. I couldn’t make it because like a lot of other young professionals, I was at work when they had this ceremony. It would have been nice if they did it on the weekend.
I think the number of people who showed is a non-story to everyone but the naysaysers who hope to be proven right, despite the detrimental impact that would have on the Fort Wayne tax base. Ironic considering the tax impact of this project was the naysayers original rallying call… Now they would rather be right and pay more, than be wrong and pay less.
It’s time to set aside pride, there’s a hole in the ground downtown that isn’t going away. It’s in EVERYONE’s best interest that this be a successful venture.
If they wanted a LOT of people…all they had to do was play loud hip hop and serve up some ribs…LOL!
(works in MY neighborhood EVERY time…like moths to a flame)

You would think with three full time public information officers they would get a crowd. Shouldn’t three times the crowd be expected under Henry as Richard or Helmke would draw with just one PIO working on publicity?
The Henry administration PIO formula
1 + 1 + 1 = <1
Patrick,
I don’t know alot, but it is my understanding that one of henry’s pio’s was behind this project 100 percent ( another young professional), sounds like someones not doing her job! Also, what do we do with the “BIG HOLE” after the team goes bye, bye. I know, Al could turn it into another one of his parks for the taxpayers too take care of.
