The storm last night did major damage to my neighborhood, downing trees and several utility poles. My powers is still out as of this writing, due in part to backup generator running at a neighbors house. It seems that whoever installed it failed to install a manual transfer switch to isolate the device from the power grid. This caused the backup generator to feed power onto the distribution lines making it impossible for Asplundh Tree Service to start removing the trees from the lines. It delayed Asplundh by several hours.

The progress they’re making is quite impressive, with some repair crews from as far away as Mishawaka. Despite their efforts, it looks like I won’t have power tonight. There are three poles down behind my house and a couple of others, and it’s not an easy place to get equipment in for the repairs. I took some pictures last night, but my camera is somewhere inside the house and I could not find it in the dark. Maybe tomorrow.

Last night I stayed at Extended Stay America. It sucks. Really sucks. Don’t waste your money, you’d be better off in a pup tent.

Panera’s? I could use a big chocolate chip cookie. ;)

    Thank you!

  3. Go get your boat out of the garage and head for the lake (I know a place…) and get some relaxation in before you have to deal with the refrigerator and freezer and nasty tree limbs! ;)

  4. It amazed me that my little corner of the S.E. “ghetto” didn’t lose power. We used to have outage “farts” whenever a CLOUD would pass over…!
And MAN, how I hated to RESET all thoe damn digital clocks!
We went to batteries…much eaiser to deal with.

And as far as tree limbs…the neighborhood didn’t have any that I could see.
The ONLY trouble with that is that some houses around here NEED to have some (huge) limbs fall on them…and didn’t.

You need a pocket LED MAGLITE or a honking big 1,000,000 candle-power spotlight so you can get around out there.
I know what TOTAL DARKNESS is like…2 foot personal radius and stressful as all get out. Be thankful there were no wild animals about…you’d never see ‘em coming.

    Stay safe.
