From the e-Bay auction description (pic follows post):

First of all, let me start this auction by letting you know that I’m an artist. As an artist, I see form and expression in everyday objects that others miss. Where you see earth, I see eARTh, and where you see a cashew, I see art. As a common ebayer, you might see in this piece a whistle, or a space horn, or even a nose. As an artist I see a full and shapely expressive form reflecting and commenting upon society, commercialism, and the continuous conflict between positive and negative space.

I don’t know why I stopped at this particular cashew as I was eating my Trader Joe’s sweet, savory & tart trail mix, but as an artist the unexplainable happens often. My body is a vessel of creation and expression in tune with everything around me, including what you would see as “just another cashew”

No, something about the shape of this particular cashew reflects the shape of our society. As the artist, I have split and re-glued the cashew as an expression of the “cracks” that have been “glued” in modern life. It is a complete work of art in every way. Famed art critic Richard Barokavov had this to say about the piece:

“Steven’s ‘Trader Joe’s Cashew #4’ is such a complete and absolute brutally dissecting view of the industrial conflict between capitalism and modernism that is is hard for even the most verbose of critics to add too. Regardless of Steven’s relation to me as a colleague and studiomate, the intense complexity I feel for this work is also complete and absolute.”

Again, I don’t expect most to fully understand the complexity of the form but as you can see it is quite powerful. Included will be a photographic digital print of the piece. Pleas bid with confidence and ask questions if some of this was hard for you to understand. Thank you for looking.

No reserve auction, free shipping. Escrow services will be used if auction exceedes the expected $500,000 that is has been valued.

ahh nuts

I believe he just called anyone that considers themselves a capitalist, “dicks”.

A half-million?? What is this guy, nuts?

From the blog Ars Technica:

The State of Oregon takes exception to Web sites that republish the state’s Revised Statutes in full, claiming that the statutes contain copyrighted information in the republication causes the state to lose money it needs to continue putting out the official version of the statutes. Oregon’s Legislative Counsel, Dexter Johnson, has therefore requested that legal information site Justia remove the information or (preferably) take out a paid license from the state.

All citizens are legally presumed to know the law, so claiming copyright over it might seem like an odd position for a state to take; wouldn’t massive copying be a goal rather than a problem? But in his letter to Justia, Johnson makes a more nuanced case. While the text of the law is not copyrighted, the “arrangement and subject-matter compilation of Oregon statutory law, the prefatory and explanatory notes, the leadlines and numbering for each statutory section, the tables, index and annotations and other such incidents” are under copyright.

Since Tom Henry & Co. don’t want a transparent and open city government, maybe this idea will help him put more of a damper on the local blogosphere. I’ve been waiting over 17 days for a response from Ozzie Mitson on a simple road project question, (which I finally got within minutes from Dave Ross, the city engineer). Thanks Dave.

Full article is here.

two malcontents

I found these guys because they linked to me. Not much in the way of original content, but they do seem to find some interesting stuff out there.

From their about page:

Our mission is to provide articles, news items, and links for those persons over the age of consent from a variety of sources and to display those we find the most interesting. They’re published for informational and entertainment purposes and do not necessarily imply our endorsement.

We accept full responsibility for our own brilliant opinions, cynical comments, and informed essays…should that actually ever happen.

“The Two Malcontents” is a compilation of generational US military families who unequivocally support our troops…regardless of where they are deployed.

This piece from their Blog had me rolling, I call it “Overturned Burro in Lane Three”.

First, a reality check. Obama is not black, he’s not white. He’s half of both. He’s embraced the culture of the African side of his heritage, but rarely do you hear him embrace the “other” side. Just curious. Now on to the big announcement.

obama picnic party

So, how about a family BBQ, compliments of Barry Obama himself..

Please join Barry for a Family Picnic in Fort Wayne, where they’ll talk about Barry’s vision for a new and divisive America, creating the kind of change no one will believe in.

Mmmmm Mmmmm Good.

Headwaters Park
Pavilion
Fort Wayne, IN

Sunday, May 4th
Doors Open: 2:30 p.m.
Program Begins: 4:30 p.m.

Oh, they also added this:

For security reasons, do not bring bags and limit personal items. No signs or banners are permitted.

Huh? A picnic that you cannot bring a bag to? I guess that means leaving the toddlers behind, because their behinds will mind if you cannot change their behinds, and with no diaper bag.. well, you get it.

wingnutI spoke with Scott Wise at last night’s Allen County Lincoln Day Dinner. Wise is a political greenhorn switch-er-roo running against Mark Souder for the 3rd District congressional seat.

I approached Wise to discuss his issue (or maybe it’s Mike Sylvester’s issue), over access to the GOP Voter Vault. He claimed he called Steve Shine (not his county chair) and was told to go through Jim Banks the Whitley County GOP chair. Wise told me last night he had asked Banks for access to Voter Vault.

Earlier in the day (yesterday) Wise posted on FortWaynePolitics.com that he already had Voter Vault access for Whitley County. So which story is he sticking with? Did he ask Banks or did he already have access?

I came back and asked him again a few moments later and he changed his story again, stating he had access to the Whitley County Voter Vault because his password from being on council was still active. Get your story straight Scott.

Wise did not follow state party rules which require him to request each County Chairman to complete and return a Voter Vault request form to the state. From what I’ve learned, Wise never followed that procedure.

Wise is just another Libertarian wingnut. If you look at Wise’s campaign web site, he links to Libertarian party sites, but no GOP sites. In 2006 he renounced his Republican party affiliation before pursuing his 2006 run against Souder for Congress, and now he wants back in? He rants on his Blog (last updated in January) about being a Republican but seems more interested in the communist party. Haven’t they gone away for the most part?

I don’t understand Libertarians. They jump back and forth between the GOP and Libertarian Party so long as they can find a place on the ballot, yet they never gain any traction. As Libertarians, they sit on the sidelines and throw beer bottles at the Republicans. Then, they jump ship and come back into the GOP and expect to be embraced as loyal party members without proving their allegiance, all the while expecting to be treated like one of the faithful.

One more note on Wise. Maybe it’s just me, but when I talk to someone that has a hard time maintaining eye contact with me, I get suspicious. Wise couldn’t maintain more than 3-4 seconds of eye contact last night during a 5 minute conversation.

A side note:

Purportedly Josh Hoot has gained access to Voter Vault, as well as the entire Republican precinct committeemen email list to the benefit Mahlon Houlihan? How did that happen?

Okay Fetcho, what’s your spin on this? She’s not in the car. This was taken on West Brackenridge at the intersection with Harrison in Front of Lincoln.
