Dear Republican Friend:

There is no doubt that the recent focus upon the Indiana Democrat Presidential Primary has had the result of emboldening the local Democrat Party.

The succession of Democrat political “rock stars” in and out of our community has, among other things, served as a lightening rod to energize local Democrat stalwarts and create a social networking platform for Democrats, who prior to 2008, lacked cohesiveness and a sense of unity of purpose, both of which have now wrapped themselves around the local Democrat party.

Our local Republican Party needs to be strong and stay strong.  The big battle is looming before us, that is, the fall election.  With nearly 10,000 new voters having registered to vote in Allen County since the November, 2007 election, one must consider what would happen if all of those people decided to vote a straight Democrat ticket.  Suddenly, the customary GOP countywide vote plurality would be significantly reduced.  What effect will this have?  Consider the outcome being a Democrat County Commissioner or Kevin Knuth on the County Council!

The only way we can stay strong and stand for our conservative, but yet progressive Republican principles, is to maintain our strength as the predominant Allen County political organization.  This can only be accomplished with both your financial help and volunteer efforts.

You can help do your part by purchasing a ticket and attending the Allen County GOP Lincoln Day Dinner, Friday, May 2, 2008, at 6:00 p.m.   The cost is $50.00 per person for dinner or $150.00 per person for the VIP Reception/Dinner.  Please make your reservations now by sending your check made payable to the Allen County Republican Party, P.O. Box 11014, Fort Wayne, Indiana  46855 or call 745-1970.

I hope you will agree with me that this is but a small request for your help, and will show our Democrat opposition that we have strength in numbers.  You need to be at Lincoln Day to make this happen.  Don’t let a lack of concern in May result in a political tremor in November.  One earthquake a year is enough!  See you Friday, May 2, at Lincoln Day.

      Sincerely,

      Steven R. Shine, Chairman
      Republican Party of Allen County

I listened to Kevin Knuth on the radio this morning and found it interesting he is RIGHT of the County Commissioners on the Maplecrest extention, the $55M improvement of 1.5mi of roadway.

Though the majority of the money is Federal funding, the County is short on their part, even after a proposed bond issue. What mystifies me is how long this project has been around and the fact the only thing that has happened, is more time has gone by and the price as doubled. Last I checked, Republicans have had a stranglehold on County Government, yet they have not been able to get this done when it was affordable (if it ever was), and now they are rushing to get it done before they have to take to a referendum after July 1st.

On this issue I would have to say Kevin is more Republican than the Republicans. Given his other Democratic proclivities I still would not vote for him, but I think the Party and the Republican elected officials are going to Bush-themselves out of office if they don’t get back to fiscal conservatism which should be a core principle.

On fiscal issues, when Kevin Knuth appears more attractive than Nelson Peters, Republicans and the Republican Party have a problem.

Progressive sounds good, but itis meaningless if you have no core or foundation that differentiates Republicans from the other Parties.

Time to get back to basics!

    Steve:

You should have gotten my wife and I’s reservation! See you there!

  3. “The only way we can stay strong and stand for our conservative, but yet progressive Republican principles …”

So now I know what is wrong with Allen County Republicans …”wishy washy” is the best description I can give to the leader of the pack’s words.

I simply do not know any liberal conservatives. It is impossible to be half-dead or half-pregnant

  4. Jim Howard says:

Progressive of course translates to United States is a third world nation in less than 10 years. I agree with you gadfly…no such thing as liberal conservatives. Trying my best not to be half-dead here.

  5. I’d like to know what Steve Shine’s definition of “progressive republican principles” is. Would someone please tell me what the heck they mean by that? I’m so tired of hearing the word “progressive” as a non-definition of what the republican party means!

  6. Squarefinger says:

Striving for “progressive Republican principles …” is one underlying reason the Allen County GOP crashed into a post last year, and why the Party is reported to have less than $100 in the bank.

“Progressive”, “Diversity”, are all feel good terms that melt in your mouth like cotton candy, but doesn’t sustain you, and leaves you hungry.

If you stand for everything, you stand for nothing!

  7. Squarefinger says:

I’d like to ask Jim Howard, “Were do you stand on funding the Maplecrest Extension?”

  8. Where the F$%K was a letter like this 9 months ago?

  9. Squarefinger says:

    Lynn,

This letter doesn’t work without the “Knuth Factor”. Up until now the Party has been its own worst enemy, but now it’s got Kevin.

  10. Jim Howard says:

Squarefinger: See my response on the bridges. They are all tied together. Maplecrest extension is wrong. That money should be reallocated to bridges.

  11. I guess we all knew it was going to take a strong Party Chair to bring the Republicans together. But..who knew it would be Kevin??
