Fort Wayne, IN., April 21, 2008 – The Allen County Right to Life Political Action Committee (ACRL- PAC) today endorsed a number of Federal, State, and Local candidates seeking elected office in the Indiana primary election being held May 6th.

“We again this year are certainly fortunate to have an excellent slate of competitive candidates who, in our estimation, have demonstrated passion and support for life,” said ACRL PAC Communications Director, Cathie Humbarger. “Though many consider life a single issue in an environment of many issues candidates are expected by voters to address, we believe attitudes and actions taken towards life are core indicators that speak to the judgment and character of candidates” remarked Humbarger.

The slate of candidates endorsed by the ACRL PAC are:

US Representative, IN 3rd District Mark Souder (R)

IN Representative, 85th District Robert Lee (R)

Allen County Surveyor Allan D. Frisinger (R)

Fort Wayne County Council

Roy Buskirk (R) At Large

James Howard (R) At Large

Paulette Kite (R) At Large

Allen County School Boards

Richard A. Allgeier EACS District 6R

John F. Blum SWAC District 1

Steven L. Gordon EACS District 5R

The endorsements were based, in part, on a survey each candidate was asked to complete. Candidates running unopposed in their Party were not endorsed, and candidates who did not respond to the survey were not considered. The complete list of candidates and their survey responses will be published in the ACRL quarterly newsletter prior to the election, and in Voter Guides produced by ACRL and made available to the public.

Is Mahlon Houlihan pro-life? Where does he stand on homosexual rights issues? Does anyone know if he is a conservative or moderate Republican?

  2. Squarefinger says:

    Inquiring-

An indication may be found in his survey response.

  3. Mahlon Houlihan is a conservatice, pro-life Republican. He was not endorsed by ACRTL and that is a shame. He answered the questions exactly like the 3 Council members they endorsed. In fact, he answered more pro-life than Cong. Mark Souder who had an exception for “the life of the mother”. Mahlon is the son of Sandra Houlihan who served for 18 years on the Allen County Council and was one of the most outspoken in defense of the taxpayers of Allen County. She went over the budget line-by-line and made all department heads accountable. I’m sure Mahlon Houlihan will follow her example and be a watchdog for Allen County residents. May 6 vote for Houlihan for Alllen County Council at Large.

  4. Would Mahlon support the Federal Defense of Marriage Amendment? Simple question… Yes or No. He may not be in a position to do it but Council is a bully pulpit as Granny J should well know. I expect an answer to this question, soon. No answer is an answer, Mr. Houlihan and it ties you squarely to the Human Rights Campaign of Fort Wayne.

  5. Squarefinger says:

    Granny,

Sandra Houlihan is not running. Mahlon Houlihan is not Sandra Houlihan. I think the ACRL PAC indicated that the responses to the survey questions were only one factor for consideration not the factor.

DNA is not enough for me, experience and accomplishment in this case is a better measure. I would agree with the commentary that Jim Howard is certainly more qualified. I think people need to realize that the County Council is going to become a bigger player in local Government with the passing of the property tax reform bill and the recent recommendations made by the Governor’s commission on reforming local Government. In view of that we need to elect the most qualified candidates that will embrace and implement that change for the mutual benefit of City and County residents alike. I think Jim Howard is the best choice.

Here is Jim Howard in his own words, you be the judge:

  6. Hetero-Republican says:

When the 3 county council members were asked at breakfast if they supported Domestic Partnership Benefits (gay and lesbian) Howard and Buskirk emphatically stated they were against it. Howard’s explanation was undoubtedly the best taking us back 2000 years and explaining the detrimental havoc that could result if it were allowed.

Strangely, Houlihan dodged the question and gave a non-relevant answer, which leads me to believe that he’s in favor of it. Makes me wonder if he’s listed with the Log Cabin Republicans.

  7. thank you ,dan! now I know who I’m NOT going to vote for. the ACRL endorsement is the kiss of death to moderate, centrist, electable candidates. Unless you can tell me just exactly what gay rights, or abortion, or such has anything to do with local county council- unless the rtl’s “taliban’s goal is to block any centrist, mainstream candidates that may even agree with them on a few issues- from getting into ANY public office. the RTL’s are about as flexible, and practical as AL QAEDA- who’s followers/adherents/hangers on -never bombed any abortion clinics. (principled terrorism?)
besides, whats so wrong with anal sex between consenting adults. saying its sinful, and soooo wrong, makes it just sooo much better..( stinkfinger giggles!)

  8. How long does it take to say that I support the Federal Defense of
Marriage Amendment? What is the controversy here, Mr. Houlihan? Granny J? What is exactly the political misstep? It isn’t about tolerance. Its about Common Law Marriage and its definition. Its about Polygamy in Texas. Marrying 9 year olds. Its about Brother and Sister marrying–incest. Its about man and man, woman and woman, man and dog defined marriages. I am sure all of these things are titilating to Mr. Roach but they are Anarchist as well. Flexibility does not mean trashing the basis of Civilization like a crazy man and crazed is the man that makes this his cause. I think it would be called Principled Anarchy?

  9. How about you Mr. Howard? What is your stand on the Defense of Marriage Amendment? You seem to be pretty vocal here on other things.

  10. Jim Howard says:

Okay, I am rather busy answering questions here but keep them coming you guys. I want to answer questions. I support the Defense of Marriage Amendment. That wasn’t so hard! Mahlon: your turn?
