Henry’s administration has set the tone for its administration coming right out of the gate with a fumbled attempt to raise taxes.

Benji over at the JG reports that Henry’s state of the city address will most likely cover taxes, and the city’s expected shortfall. Benji also notes:

The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, so reservations are requested. A small number of seats remain available. Though Henry will begin speaking at noon Wednesday at Grand Wayne Center, people are asked to arrive early so they can be seated in time for the mayor to speak.

The Grand Wayne convention hall can accommodate over 3,000 people, why are the using a small room and limiting seating?

They missed another opportunity to set the tone recently. The Henry administration recently spent untold thousands of dollars to buy any employee that has a business card new ones. On top of that the also purchased new stationary. What everyone already had was thrown in the dumpster. Why you ask? So Tom Henry’s name could grace every employee’s business card and letterhead. I understand the stationary, but why not use what you had, and then when you get new cards printed remove the mayor’s name? It’s unnecessary and in less than four years, they’ll be tossing them again.

  1. So you think Matt Kelty would have had people handing out business cards that said “Graham Richard, Mayor”?

    Not a chance!

  2. Kevin,

When Evan Bayh took office in 1989 Bayh did exactly what you’re suggesting no one should do. He used the stationary that had the previous governor’s name on it. You might take note, the previous Governor was Robert D. Orr, a republican.

    Go away.

  3. Dan, come-on, are you kidding me? This isnt Mayberry. You honestly wanted city employees to handout business cards with the wrong Mayor on them. Thats ridiculous.

  4. Whole point missed here - as business cards, letterhead etc. are replaced, remove the mayor’s name completely. Then the problem is no more.

  5. Lucy,

That was tried when Graham Richard took office but he insisted his name be placed on the card. It would have been nice for them to have a little forethought and remove the name from the card. Personally, I don’t see the point. Everyone knows who the mayor is.

Then again, look at the tax levy debacle. His staff was too inept to let him know it couldn’t be done (legally).

  6. Wow, Dan… you are a “mean spirited blogger”. Joking, of course.

  7. Jeff:
    Dan’s not mean-spirited…he just needs a ciggie…!

    ;)

  8. Bobett Kelley says:

There is more than enough room to accomadate Mayor Henry’s
public address at the public Grand Wayne Center.

Those that share City business cards, letter heads etc. know who the Mayor is.
