Wendy Robinson - $190,886
Brian Smith - $171,400
Kay Novotny - $160,790
Steve Yager - $145,072
By comparison, here’s a few 2007 salaries from the Indiana state house:
Lieutenant governor, $76,000
Attorney general, $79,400
Superintendent of public instruction, $79,400
Auditor, treasurer; and secretary of state, $66,000
And at the city level, Steve Davis who is a former city traffic engineer earned $122,676 last year. More than half that came from a $65,954 buyout of nearly 3,900 sick hours. Sick hours are for when you’re sick, if you don’t use them, you should lose them at the end of the year.
How about Paul Dolde, a City of Fort Wayne utility electrician. He earned $101,866 last year. His salary is only $45,785. He received $39,048 from overtime. How efficient is that?
And then there’s property taxes.

I know most folks absolutely shit down their leg seeing those annual totals, but you have to keep it in perspective. Any CEO that oversees 6000 employees and a budget of $300 million is well worth $200k a year. You can argue about whether or not you like the way Ms. Robinson does her job, but her salary isn’t out of line.
But tim, a CEO that makes that is in a for profit company in the private sector. We’re talking about a public institution.
That’s a nice comparison Tim. But, the role of schools, first and foremost, is to teach kids what they need to succeed in the future. Those other CEO’s run businesses whose main objective is to make money. They earn their pay by doing their job well. I don’t think the same can be said for anyone in the public school system.
Well folks, think of the caliber of people you’d get if you paid LESS.
No matter what the enterprise produces (high test scores or widgets) the top management sets the policies and procedures necessary for success.

I submit that is the role of the TEACHER. Administrators run school CORPORATIONS, not classrooms. I don’t think you want a 10th grade gym teacher running a 6,000 employee corporation, be it for profit or not for profit.

Crap…..I hate when I agree with Tim Zank.
There are multiple things that come to mind when Dr. Robinson’s salary is mentioned. Here are my few thoughts:
1.) Jerry Petersen head of the United Wayne earns over $112,000 per year. He oversees a staff of 24.
2.) Education is one of the most important facets of community development. Without a strong K-12th grade system, there would be no need for IPFW, St. Francis, Taylor-Ft. Wayne, Ivy Tech, etc. The community, as a whole, would not rationalize a college education if students could not add 2+2 or subtract 2-2.
3.) Dr. Robinson, although only a Ed., must have a doctorates degree and numerous other college courses to be able to maintain her spot. In today’s Journal-Gazette there was a story about commerical loan officiers and there great salaries, that while they pale in comparision for the short-term, they don’t have to be at the bottom rung of the barrel making $40,000 per year.
4.) Dr. Robinson has to be politicially correct, where ever and when ever she is in the community.
5.) In today’s turbulent times of school shootings, would you really want to lead a public school system. As a substitute teacher, here is a few things that I have had to deal with:
- A 9th grader being arrested on ‘resisting arrest’ when he refused to leave with an administrator.
- A 7th grader who threatened to ‘kick my ass’ because he did not like me.
- A 7th grader who called me a bitch.
- A 10th grader who called me a mother-fu**** bitch, and then proceeded to me that she was going to jump-me in school.
- A high school student reaching into my pants pocket, taking my cell phone, when there 3 (Three) cops sitting in the classroom for security purposes.
- My wallet being taken a by 5th grade student.
- My debit card being taken by a 2nd grade student.
These problems are enough to have me shaking my head, and saying I don’t want to teach. These incidients took place in 4 schools, I would not want to know what goes on in the district’s other 49 buildings. In conclusion, I will say this: I may go to a building tomorrow, and if the wrong student brings in a knife or gun, if the administrator is there she or he may be a victim as well. I know those in the finance (except retail banking), software, engineering, etc. don’t have those fears.

If a elected official’s salary is based on the total number of employees that he oversees, then that will give him the incentive to increase the number of employees. That may be what Kevin wants, but it is not what you and I want.
If you want to run government like a business, then this is what I propose. Each candidate for an executive branch office submits a bid before the election, and then let the voters decide. A person who has served in office before and has done well might insist on a $500K salary. His rookie opponent might settle for $60K and brag about what a bargain he is. Voters will decide whether a candidate’s experience is worth the extra money.

Let’s put this in perspective, I listed all the salaries paid to all Public & Private Universisty Professionals & Admistratrators at a post on “Just for the Record” scroll thru it, you’ll see the outrageous amounts spent on Salaries.
Now take a deep breath, and now look at what our Mayor, Indiana State House, Senate & Gov. makes.
It’s time to bust the Educational System! It’s long over-due.
As an example, a business worth, lets say Millions, who should decide how much should be paid; Is it up to the shareholders to decide.
Take it one step further, the public like should reap aid? Let’s say Millions, Billions, or Trillions are at stake, do we really want this?
