From the Journal Gazette
It’s not typically a big deal when a mayor hires a spokesman, let alone an assistant. But Mayor Tom Henry, a Democrat, last week announced hiring Ozzie Mitson as one of his public information assistants.
Mitson, a Republican precinct official, was the campaign manager for Nelson Peters, who was almost Henry’s fall Republican opponent. Peters was the overwhelming favorite before losing to Matt Kelty in the GOP primary.
It should be noted, Mitson also worked on John Crawford’s campaign.
Henry also hired Rachel Blakeman as a public information assistant. Blakeman is the director of marketing with Lancia Homes and a former Journal Gazette reporter. The city is still searching for a director of public information.
According to Jeff Pruitt, the city budget only called for one PIO, we’re now getting three.

Dan,
There’s been some misunderstanding about this. There has always been a Director of Public Information and a Public Information Officer. The only new position that’s been added here is a 2nd PIO…
This says more about Mr. Mitson than it does about Mayor Henry. Does Mitson have any loyalty whatsoever to his party?
He must have the same sense of loyalty as McGauley. Zip.
If the new mayor keeps pushing to raise property taxes for the 2008 budget which was already approved, he’ll need more than 3 to put a good spin on it.
If the smoking ban gets modified, how does Rachel Blakeman plan on spinning that? Almost every other post on her short lived blog was how the glorious smoking ban benefited the workers. That’s why Henry needs a backup.
Rachel’s opinion on the smoking ban is irrelevant. She will spin it whatever way mayor Henry asks her to – that’s her job…
JOHN CRAWFORD IS OZZIE MITSON’S UNCLE.
CAN YOU SAY NEPOTISM ??????????????? OLD OZZIE COULDN’T GET A JOB WITHOUT UNCLE JOHN.
