There are so many PDF files to read about Harrison Square I’ve just not had the time to read them all. Last night I was looking at the stadium license agreement. The city’s obligations list seems to be a copy and paste from someone else’s list.

One interesting item on the list is an $850 typewriter. While it stated that -0-are required, I find it odd it was on the list at all. Who in the hell uses typewriters anymore?

Also on the list is an 85 lb washer/extractor and one 120 lb tumbler at $11,500 each, which are a commercial washing machine and dryer for uniforms, etc. I spoke with a friend of mine that sells commercial industrial washers and dryers. They can be purchased for about $9,000 and $7,000 respectively. Also listed is a 2-drawer file cabinet for $460. Or how about 2 Couches for $2,500 each.

My questions:

The total equipment the taxpayers are to provide comes to $1,325,605 dollars. Is that an estimate? Does the city write a check to Hardball and they buy the equipment? Or, does the city purchasing department buy the equipment?

Inquiring minds want to know.

  1. I didn’t realize mannequins were so expensive. Looks like they can find a better deal here: http://www.buymannequins.com/

  2. john b. kalb says:

Dan - The $5 million that Hardball is “contributing” to the cost of the stadium can, per the written agreement, be contributed “in kind”. Guess who’s “estimates” will be used for valuation? My guess is that the entire $5 million will be “in kind” and there is no way that anything at Memorial Stadium will ever be transfered to the neww ballpark! What a waste! John B. Kalb

  3. I think the check goes to Hardball and they do the buying. I doubt they would let the Purchasing Department handle any of this. Too much public scrutiny and Purchasing has to follow all those pesty State laws when they buy things. Just a guess.

  4. Sorry anon, but public scrutiny hasnt detered the city one bit on any part of this crapbowl.

  5. They’re not going to call this white elephant “Costaplenty Square” for NOTHING now…are they?

BTW…I’ve got a few (new) gov’t “surplus” hammers I can let them STEAL from me for a mere $625.95 each!

    ;)
