Or maybe it’s Sam Talarico, or maybe Doc Hayhurst is running again?
Jeff Pruitt reported this today:
Montagano Likely to Get Primary Challenger
Mike Montagano, Democratic candidate for the 3rd Congressional District, will likely have to win a primary before moving on to challenge Republican incumbent Mark Souder. While I was in the middle of writing this post to tell everybody who Montagano’s challenger was going be, I received a phone call from the likely challenger asking me to withhold their name until they’ve had time to “tie up some loose ends”.
I’m giving odds it’s one of the three I mentioned, in this order:
Graham Richard
Sam Talarico
Doc Hayhurst
I’m putting out feelers.

Richard could win, but I think he has health issues and needs to make some dough.
Talarico would more likely challenge Mark Souder as a Republican than run as a Democrat. I take him at his word that he is not interested in running for office anytime soon.
Hayhurst has the time, money and name recognition. And thanks to the vindictiveness of the Republican Party regulars who would give up the Mayor’s office for 4-years rather than elect Matt Kelty, they have set the stage for potential Democrat win of the seat with the momentum they have created with a Henry victory.
Souder did not distinguish himself with his wishy-washy flip-flopping on supporting Matt Kelty. He is very vulnerable IMO.
Herb Summers is going to run on the issue of Bush’s imperialism.
1 Hayhurst
2 Richard
3 Talarico
I think a second time around Hayhurst would win.
Mark literally sold his soul to the “people who are paying a lot of the bills around here,” as he phrased his position to a friend of mine at this year’s Bean Dinner. I feel his conduct has been divisive (to borrow a term from him) and I have developed serious concerns about his ability to accurately represent his constituents in United States House of Representatives. While I have supported Mr. Souder in the past, I feel it necessary to retract my support of him in the voting booth from this point forward. Mark Souder’s decision to publicly betray a fellow Republican in his time of need for the sake of his own political fortunes exemplifies a selfish brand of cowardice that I find repugnant beyond description. (Yes, I realize I’m turning on Mark Souder, but I have no political ambitions; my positions are ideological in nature.) For that reason, I will actively support any conservative Republican who chooses to oppose him in the May primary.
Mark Souder doesnt eat turkey on thanksgiving, because for him, it would be cannibalism. Hes the biggest turkey around. I would vote for a pastrami on rye, before I would vote for Souder again. and pass the kool-aid! GOP bean dinner? reminds me of this classic scene from “blazing saddles”-

giggle!
Regarding Mark Souder… I’m very tempted to vote against him this next year. But I’ll be honest. It absolutely depends on the democrat running against him. As a conservative republican, the last thing we should want is more liberals running the country. I’m angry with Souder’s involvement with this election. I think he was misinformed, temperamental and lacked judgment by taking sides to begin with. He would have been much better off not to vet involved, because his actions and words were very polarizing within the republican party. He didn’t change the minds of those who already supported Nelson Peters, but he definately affected those who supported Matt Kelty. He spoke of Kelty’s campaign being “divisive”, but they all fail to recognize that the divisiveness all began long before Kelty won the primary… it began with the leadership within the party. Let’s not kid ourselves.
I’m willing to set aside my own anger or disappointment regarding this election to vote for what is important in preserving my personal values and freedoms. I don’t agree with Mark 100% of the time, but I’m not going to vote against him just for that.
Our party is in greater jeapordy than we realize. The democrats don’t just want to control the country and their own party… they want to control the republican party too. They have somehow managed to convince party leaders, senators, congressmen that the best thing is to abandon our roots of true conservatism that Ronald Reagan was unswerving in reestablishing for a more “moderate” approach to everything. Well, Matt Kelty said NO to that. He wasn’t going to water down his message or his convictions just to satisfy those liberal republicans who happen to have a little power within the party.
Sorry to lose focus. I know I hit on several unrelated points.
Carol - You don’t have to wait for the November election next year - we can shed Mark S. in the Republican primary - I believe that Bill Larsen fits our “Reagan Conservative” profile and I will be working to see that his name- not Souder’s is on the November ballot. Will you join us? John B. Kalb
John, nothing against Bill Larsen but he would not stand a chance against Souder, nor could he raise the $1 million or so it would take to compete against him and then in the general election. Larsen’s lost what, four times in a row?
We need a candidate that’s a lot stronger.
I don’t know anything about Bill Larsen. Enlighten me please.
Carol - Best way to get to know what Bill stands for is to read his web pages - go to http://www.justsayno.50megs.com or go to FWobserved and go down to William Larsen and click on it for Bill’s blog. John B. Kalb
And Dan - I believe that Bill received about 35 % of the vote last time against Souder - and that with some support - he can be successful. Who do you think could do better? Let’s not wait until January to get moving on moving Souder out! John
Considering of the three, only Graham Richard has reserved his own domain name, I’d say it’s highly unlikely either Hayhurst or Talarico is considering a challenge of Souder. Richard’s site says “coming soon”. It’s hard for me to imagine only a 26-year old from Bristol would come forward to challenge Mark right now.
John,
When Larsen ran in 2004 he only received 12,203 votes against Souder’s 46,568 which was approx. 21% of the total.
Dan. People weren’t as mad at Souder as they are right now.
Pay up, boys!! I called it.
