Kevin Knuth is at it again, this time attacking Don Schmidt with a mailer. I suppose you can just say that Goldner has now gone negative.
In the ad they claim Schmidt has raised taxes 16 times. On that page they fail to tell you that it occurred over 32 years. However, 12 of those votes were to approve an increase in the city budget. What Knuth fails to tell us in the ad is that Henry voted for increases in the same city budget votes. Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?
He fails to highlight the fact that Don is actually a fiscal conservative. One example from Leo Morris’ blog – January 2006.
Hooray for the City Council (or, more precisely, the five Republicans on it) for beating back the Richard administration’s attempt to get $1.25 million more out of taxpayers.

Love this paragraph:
Roller said Fort Wayne is the only city in Indiana not taking the maximum levy. Don Schmidt, R-2nd District, said, “I personally think that’s not such a bad advertisement for economic development.â€Schmidt has kept the faith on fiscal responsibility on the council for a long, long time, sometimes seemingly single handedly
I could not find the article Knuth cited regarding cutting polic officers. Kevin, have a link?
As for increasing his pay, that was over a period of 36 years. I believe the current wage is a fair amount given the investment in time our city council members invest. Tom Henry voted for increasing his pay as a city councilman every time the vote came around. Of course, that’s not mentioned either.
Schmidt has been a fiscal conservative and has protected Fort Wayne residents from the tax and spend liberals. I predict he will retain his 2nd district seat and he has my endorsement (even though I do not live there).

I just read the article “Do issues Matter” in today’s N.S. web edition and Kevin Knuth’s quotes really honked me off. It actually forced me to register, so I could leave the following comment.
The worst part about these indictments is that the never should have been brought at all. Indiana law gave the jurisdiction of campaign finance to the Allen County Election board. They ruled in favor of Matt Kelty and the legal process should have ended right then and there. They determined NO CRIMES WERE COMITTED. Upon that conclusion, Indiana law did not provide any means to appeal that decision. Matt should never have had to deal with this during his campaign. If the indictments are so important to people, they should obtain copies for themselves, along with the motion to dismiss filed my Matt Kelty and make an informed decision. Do not rely on what you read in the papers.
I just wonder how long it will stay.
