Letters to the editor
To vote for Tom Henry as mayor because to his years of experience in government is just common sense. We do not need anyone who has not held any office prior to becoming mayor. Voters should forget party labels and vote quality when you have it available.

ROBERT RUNGE Fort Wayne

Robert apparently knows little about the history of the Fort Wayne Mayor’s office. Here’s a few examples.

Dr. Merchant W. Huxford a member of the Whig Party was elected mayor of Fort Wayne in a special election to fill the vacancy left by John M. Wallace, who resigned as mayor after serving one year. He served as mayor of Fort Wayne after being reelected twice. He was mayor from for three terms, from 1845 – 1849. Prior to serving as mayor, he was a druggist.

William J. Hosey, a democrat served four terms.

1905 – 1909
1913 – 1917
1921 – 1925
1929 – 1934

Hosey was a a machinist for the Pennsylvania Railroad prior to serving as mayor and had not held political office prior.

Robert Meyers, a republican served as Fort Wayne mayor from 1954 – 1959. Prior to serving as mayor, Meyers was a lawyer.

Experience in government does not a mayor make. Quality? Henry’s a tax-and-spend big government liberal. After all, he voted for 23 annexations during his 20 years on city council.

Makes you hanker for more COMMOM SENSE with politicians instead of SENSELESS COMMONALITY!
