Charles Langley who’s running to replace Tom Hayhurst in the 4th district for city council had a very short-lived post on his Blog. It appears (I’m guessing here) that not only did it upset Mr. Hayhurst, but Mr. Knuth as well.

Here’s the post which has now mysteriously disappeared.

Why I Like Matt Kelty

In the past months I have become very discouraged with local politics, for more than one reason. But what has been pressing on my thoughts are the issues surrounding Matt Kelty.

It seems to me the one thing that Mr. Kelty has always wanted from day one, in my opinion, is a fierce and vibrant debate on the issues.

Ironically, that is the last item that is given to this candidate for the office of Fort Wayne mayor.

Say the name Matt Kelty to the average citizen and the first thing thought of is not an important issue to Fort Wayne. Try it, I have.

Matt Kelty wants to speak about smaller government and cutting red tape; scrap one week or more of media for investigation into his walk-on football performance at Notre Dame.

Matt Kelty wants to speak on improving the infrastructure of the city; scrap countless columns on the fact his opponent has innumerable endorsements of city leaders and an impressive resume of experience.

Matt Kelty wants to decrease taxes and make a more business-friendly Fort Wayne; scrap five days of debate for discussion regarding a large campaign sign downtown.

Matt Kelty wants to talk about city and county consolidation; scrap two weeks as his opponent has made a move to allow the issue of the remonstrance to be discussed with the Indiana legislature.

Matt Kelty won his primary and wishes to bring a candid debate to the November election; scrap months of essential dialog due to his loan given his campaign’s committee.

One thing is certain, do not tell this candidate that he cannot do something. He will forge a strategy and he will plan his work and turn around to work his plan. And he will work tirelessly to achieve his goal. And once he has completely obliterated every challenge and obstacle in front of him that was placed there by others, he’s decent enough to be more than gracious in victory.

That is why I like Matt Kelty.

Please note that this does not mean I endorse the Kelty campaign, one can be critical and complimentary and still ultimately lean in a like direction. Just as one can be critical of our public schools in their attempt to win a $500 million remonstrance and still endorse the project.

Now Matt Kelty faces another challenge as the case has been brought to the prosecutor’s office. If it was anyone else I would think the odds would be somewhat insurmountable, but I’m fairly certain the odds are in his favor.

The one thing Matt Kelty has ever asked for, a debate on the issues of Fort Wayne, is the last thing he gets. Most of us realize his political party and some of his ideas. How he will go about transforming and making Fort Wayne a “city on the hill,” no one really knows.

It seems to be the last thing anyone in this city wants from Mr. Kelty.

Issues, anyone?

My spin on all of this? Two things.

He’s pandering to the republicans in the 4th district and it backfired on him.
He’s seriously lacking any political experience.

From what I’ve observed on Langley’s Blog he’s a pretty wishy-washy candidate.

Don’t think for yourselves; I’ll tell you what to think!

He may be smarter than the Republicans, at least he knows where the momentum and votes are.

He could be following the Democrat Play Book, say anything to get elected and then do what the party tells you after elected, to hell with the voters.
