North River Task Force - or North River Hack Force?
Posted by: AWB in City & County Government
Below is the list of task force members. Ring a bell to anyone? It’s many of the same players (committee people if you will) such as the BluePrint Downtown Plus Committee. In other words, the same bunch that crammed the stadium up our collective wallets.
Rick Samek Co-Chair, Carson Boxberger (lawyer)
Rick Samek is president of the Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana - is co-chair with Wendy Stein is is president of YLNI a group which has led the campaign for a stadium we don’t need and few people want. YLNI’s clan of youngsters is also either behind or highly influences the Downtown Fort Wayne Baseball Blog (which Wndy denies) which is notorious for slandering the name of local politicians without backing it up with facts through the use of incessant anonymous commenters whose identity is highly questionable.
No not highly questionable; fake, false or how about imaginary? Hell, they even have a dirtball from Hicksville, Ohio on that team.
Bill Bean Developer
Bill Bean is a real estate developer with ties to Omni Source and the scrap metal industry and is or was connected to Superior Aluminum Alloys, as well as many loved local politicians… Nelson Peters, Sam Talarico & John Crawford to name a few, not to mention having a fiduciary interest in local “commercial and retail” real estate developments.
Bill Bean owns or partially owns more than 2 million square feet of buildings in Fort Wayne. He is affiliated with ANYI Management Company out of Brighton, MI.
Bean also owns the Park Place grill, where the Peters’ crowd watched in shock as the primary election results were tabulated.
Ben Eisbart OmniSource
Actually from what I can tell a good citizen. Still, with ties to Bill Bean I have to question his presence.
Scott Glaze Fort Wayne Metals
He’s chairman and chief executive officer of Fort Wayne Metals and is opening an Irish pub at 121 W. Wayne St. with condos above. Aw, go figure. A north river development surely couldn’t hurt that investment now could it?
David Corcoran Identity Alliance
This is the guy that said and I paraphrase “you must be stupid to not support Harrison Square”. Stoopid is as stoopid does I suppose. I’ve met him once, nice guy but he seems to think that geeks love baseball. Wow.
Tom Didier City Council
This guy’s give-a-damn is broken. Then again, I suppose he just does what Doc Crawfish and Sam Talarico tell him to do. That song by Waylon Jennings keeps coming to mind. Remember, he along with Sammy Talarico and John Crawford and Co. stuck us with a baseball stadium we didn’t want.
Tiffany Gooden Barnes & Thornburg (yet another lawyer)
Hey.. yeah, yeah, yeah.. she’s a former Miss Basketball and in Hoosierville maybe that’s all it takes. She’s a lawyer with the largest firm in the state which by the way, just happens to have one fsck of a ton-o-billable hours they have an interest in when it comes to who will be representing the city on projects like this.
Tom Niezer Barrett & McNagny (real estate lawyer)
Ah yes, good ole’ Tommy Neizer who’s brother Barney sits on the Fort Wayne Plan Commission. I’m planning on doing an exercise to see how many votes on behalf of Barry Sturgis that Barney missed. I bet it’s not many. Barry who? That’s who Tom Neizer represents. Oh and let’s not forget, he hangs his shingle at the same law firm as Sam Talarico. Surprising? Nope.
Tim Pape City Council (lawyer)
Damn, that’s a bunch of lawyers isn’t it? You all know Tim Pape’s history on how he screwed us on the Harrison Square project - in spite of public opposition. Tim works for Carson Boxberger, a local law firm that among other things specializes in governmental law and wealth planning.
Don Schenkel Tower Bank
Dick Waterfield Waterfield Mortgage
Don Willis FourthWave
Why are the three people above on the committee (all of which are loaded to the gills)? I’ll tell you why? They’re part of the good ole’ boy network. Why not Byron Peters and/or Bud Hall and some of the small local business people that truly represent the sentiments of the local constituency?
I could go on and on.. here’s the balance of the list but I think you get my point. It’s always the same players deciding for us without our opinion. In Fort Wayne, the voice of the people is always left at the curb.
Dan Wire River Advocate
Cheri Becker Invent Tomorrow
Bill Brown Allen County Commissioner
Carol Coen Fort Wayne Community Schools Board
Jim Cook Chase Bank
Wendy Stein Co-Chair, Stein Advertising
Pat Delaney Science Central
Quinton Dixie Redevelopment Commission
Julie Donnell Friends of the Parks
Dennis Sutton Fort Wayne Sports Corp
Andrew Thomas NAPA Auto Parts
Josh Harper CM Sloan
Paula Hughes Allen County Council
Deb Leonard Fort Wayne Sports Corp
Eleanor Marine Fort Wayne Resident
Mike Packnett Parkview Health
Vince Robinson Convention and Visitors Bureau Board
Just more of the same old crap.

No wonder Fort Wayne has to annex…you just can’t get “ten pounds of $hit into a five pound bag”…can you?
Two words come to mind…CADRE and CABAL.
Either way, the “screw” keeps turning!

What’s the liquor license situation on the Irish Pub? Someone in the bar business told me that because they were close enough to the river, and because of some little known law, that they were going to swing getting a 3-way without any supposedly available… Or maybe they did find one on their own. I’m not sure… Doesn’t seem fair…
Good point Mike. We’ll poke around and watch for news regarding that. Since Byron Peters’ (412 Club Owner) is a member of the Beverage Assoc., I’m sure Mike Sylvester can find out something.
Byron is running for city council on the Libertarian ticket.
FYI, Rick Samek has nothing to do with YLNI. I am the current YLNI president, and I have never served on any task force or other community project like this in the past. I was not involved with BluePrint Plus. A very quick fact-finding mission (perhaps 30 seconds on Google?) would have given you the correct information as to which organizations Rick & I each represent.
YLNI also has no official affiliation with the Downtown Baseball blog, although I do enjoy reading it.
Best,
Wendy Stein
President, Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana
Co-chair, North River Task Force
Editor’s note: I did Google him but alas only ready the summary and it appeared he was, I have corrected that and apologize. As for YLNI’s either participation or influence of Downtwon Fort Wayne Baseball - well, I have reason to believe otherwise.
AWB,
Wendy;s key word in that statement was “official”. Even though they had no official affiliation with getting the stadium, they sure as hell tried to force it upon the members of YLNI by saying we supported the expansion. Wasn’t the poll they conducted a crock of crap. As a YLNI member, I was against the stadium but my voice was only heard through other avenues as YLNI is full of a bunch of wanna-bees who want to join the Good Ole Boys club. In fact, a couple of them had been asked to “resign” from employment because their political aspirations and commitments were interfering with their employment. Irony. LOL
