Barrington family wants child molester put away

Timeline of convicted molester

John Deware, 46, of Providence, was charged with enticement of a child after an incident in Barrington this June. The offense was his fourth in 14 years, and now the parents of the boy who Mr. Deware attempted to lure are hoping the offender is locked up for the maximum amount of time.

* In 1992, Mr. Deware was charged by North Kingstown police with first degree child molestation and was sentenced a year later to 40 years with 14 to serve. He was also ordered to attend a mandatory sex offender program during his prison stay.

* In 1994, back on the streets after being granted parole from the first incident, Mr. Deware was charged with three counts of first degree sexual assault. A year later he was convicted of the charges and sentenced to 40 years with 20 to serve.

* Mr. Deware remained in prison until he earned parole in 2002. A year later he landed back in prison after being sentenced to four years to serve after he was convicted of exposing himself in public.

* In January of this year, Mr. Deware was granted parole again. According to an arrest report, he was living in Providence at the time of his latest offense. He is scheduled to appear at a probation violation hearing tomorrow, where he could be sentenced to a maximum of 26 years in prison. The child enticement charge is currently pending in superior court.
